I use Feline Pine and have had absolutely no problems.
The Rise and Fall of Clumping Clay Litter
http://cats.about.com/cs/litterbox/a/clumpingclay_2.htm
This is a good article about clay litters containing sodium bentonite.
Silica Dust is bad. Silica Dust appears when the litter is moved or shifted (by your cat or when pouring the fresh litter) creating a hazardous health problem if inhaled or ingested by either you or your pets. The inhalation of these silica particles has been linked with lung cancer, bronchitis and tuberculosis. The initial first stage of silicosis may lead to other conditions including lung fibrosis and is linked to a fatal form of pulmonary tuberculosis called Silico-Tuberculosis.
I have heard that pine oils are bad for small animals. Can I use Feline Pine for other small animals? Because Feline Pine, Feline Pine Scoop and All Pet are fired at high temperatures (380 degrees F) most of the aromatic hydrocarbons (dangerous oils in aromatic woods) are burned off before it reaches the final processing stage. In the final stage, the wood is compressed to 1/9th it’s original size and heat-treated again. This final stage squeezes out and burns off any residual chemicals which may have been missed. The results are less than 1-part-per-billion of these dangerous chemicals, a standard that far exceeds government regulations to be considered safe and free of hazardous chemicals.

I have had the best results with Arm and Hammer I never smell it and the clumps are so easy to scoop! Some cats do not react well with feline pine and its not the best for cat litter.

The best kind is what will work best for you and your cat.
I love Arm & Hammer scoopable litter. With three cats, the clumping litter is a life saver!

i don't listen to all the reports and all that. i use scoop away now. ive tried others & this stuff clumps together the best without crumbling & covers up the smell just fine. better than fresh step or tidy cats in my experience.

I've never had any trouble with Tidy Cat or Cat's Pride. Or even the generic Scoop-It.
