Alta Vista has a translation website that isn't perfect (it doesn't translate slang well, for example) but it gets the point across. You have to type in the text then select a language to translate from/to. If it's too much to type, then you might contact a local club (German club or school program) and post an ad to pay someone for help.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is an easy or cheap answer to this. You probably can't read the handwriting well enough to type out the letters, although you might find someone who could try to read a photocopy. I would try to find a German-language group (often called a Stammtisch) in your town and see if someone there can help. At the Stammtische in my (US) town, there are a good number of older native speakers who are themselves interested in genealogy. Call the closest university or look on Meetup.com to find such a group.

Another approach might be to find a genealogy interest group and see if they have resources.

Post an add for a professional translator - if these letters are so old, the language has another style and there is no way automatic translation will help.

How long are the letters?
If you e-mail them to me, I might be able to translate them for you.
