I agree with you and I think you're right, but for your son's sake that information needs to be somewhere (in case you're unable for whatever reason to tell him the full story at a later date). Medical situations arise where doctors could need additional information to adequately address his condition (in which case, knowing about his father would be valuable).

I think that if he didn't want to be in your sons life then so be it. You can't force a man to act like.....well.....a man. Some guys are always going to be little whiney responsibility phobic donkey's. If you haven't gotten anything from him in terms of support and you don't want any, then just let the matter lie. Some day you'll find a great man that will want to adopt the little guy. Not having anyone on the birth certificate would make that easier I would think.

I can't blame you, it's just a sad thing the child will grow up not knowing his birth father. Also growing up in a similar situation I want to urge you if you ever need financial support to seek it from the father. Despite how he feels he is responsible for your son.

Well, if you want the baby to grow up without a Dad. I would say leave it how it is. But how would you feel if you never knew your Dad? Do u know what I mean?
I would get him in court for child support.

You are raising the child, and it will save a lot of pain for him growing up by allowing him to share your last name.

I think he's not the child's father, just a sperm donor.
