As a psychotherapist, I know what the clinical definition of homosexuality is a person who is attracted sexually, emotionally to their own gender INSTEAD of the opposite gender.. They are put simply the polar OPPOSITE of heterosexual. Homosexuality, heterosexuality and bisexuality are sexual orientations that exist along a continum. They can usually manifest as early as pre-puberty ( I know MANY of us have met children and just KNEW) and is not a conscious CHOICE.

Homosexuality is not a BEHAVIOR just like heterosexuality is not a behavior. It is not the SEXUAL ACT that makes you gay or straight. There are homosexuals who are virgins but identify as gay. Now this is what vast majority of professionals in my field who rely on UNBIASED, objective research over the 70+ years on the subject know as facts.

However, I see repeatedly on R&S certain Christians expressing a view contrary to medical research. You describe homosexuality as a behavior, addiction or habit.

You describe gay people as if they are actually HETEROSEXUALS who just engage in same sex intercourse.

Where did you get this definition and what research backs it up?

I understand your point Freakin Jesus and perhaps we'll delve into all the other aspects later but I find that INCORRECT definitions are often where the lack of understanding begins. People make up their OWN definitions according to what suits their prejudices and supports their religious beliefs instead of the correct medical viewpoint.

They get those ridiculous definitions because someone told them. In the entire NIV the word homosexual is only used once and that is in 1 Corinthians 6:9.

This is something that I teach in my classes...Usually strong feelings and violence against another is the acting out of the similar internal turmoils and feelings with oneself.

I think most Christians or anyone for that matter have such a problem with it not because someone is simply a homosexual. But that they believe them to be more promiscuous, because even though their is a risk of STDs, there is no risk for pregnancy, thus they would have sex more frequently because their consequences are lower.
It's difficult for some people to think that how we are attracted to someone is purely based on a sexual attraction, which is not the case, because a single person could not be sexually attracted to everyone they meet. Thus that's exactly the case with homosexuals,. they too are not sexually attracted to everyone of the same sex..
The only time I consider anything sexual a sin is when it's based on lust. Which includes both straights and gays. And there's plenty of those people in both factions.

I am a Bisexual Christian. I read what you wrote carefully. I agree that homosexuality is something that has more to do with inner desires which are present with a particular individual without the conscious effort to apply those desires.

I hope that I am on the right track.

Homosexuality is not necessarily the act of committing the desires to practice, that is; the outward expression of those desires.

Yet as words are defined, there are different forms of words. And there is a definition of homosexual which may be applied in the expression of the act. The verb form of the word if you will.
n.
1. Sexual orientation to persons of the same sex.
2. Sexual activity with another of the same sex.
American Heritage Dictionary
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/homosexuality

So the noun form, the second definition from this source, allows the activity to be in place without changing the spelling of the word: Without needing to derive another form of the root word in order to describe the activity.

If I am faulty in my logic, then please correct me.

I am not however one of those who would come after homosexuals as being 'more of a sinner' or 'too much of a sinner' who cannot be saved through the grace of God through Jesus Christ.

I am here to preach the Gospel message, and also I find myself defending homosexuals from those who rely on faulty understandings of the Bible, who are treating homosexuals as being less than others, or unsavable.

[Adoptive Father],[joe b],[Boy Wonder],[Dark Blue due to the fact 'sixty two],[PROBLEM JPAS A.R.T.], A precise Christian does now not receive Satan's lies - primarily evilution. Most so-known as Christians don't suppose God's phrase in its entirety. As a "Born once more Y E Christian" I do recognize evilution, as I majored in geological technology. I suppose the hindrance such a lot men and women have with the phrase "evolution" is that almost all men and women have no idea what the phrase manner. It is vitally predominant that phrases akin to "evolution" be used appropriately and constantly. The conception of "evolution" that the evolutionists are fairly advertising, and which creationists oppose, is the thought that debris was men and women through the years, with none want for an clever clothier (God). The evolutionist Kerkut appropriately outlined this "ordinary conception of evolution" (GTE) as "the speculation that the entire residing types on the planet have arisen from a unmarried supply which itself got here from an inorganic type." He persisted, "The proof that helps this isn't sufficiently robust to permit us to recall it as some thing greater than a running speculation." [G A Kerkut, 'Implications of Evolution" Oxford, England. Pergamon, 1960), p.157.] First, outline the phrase evolution - I suppose it implies that one species turns into (evolves) right into a wholly NEW species. (This is MACRO-evolution) To selectively breed a Chihuahua, or a Irish Wolf Hound from a wild wolf is NOT evolution this can be a version inside a species, that a few name MICRO-evolution. They are nonetheless the entire identical KIND are they now not? – hence they did NOT evolve, they're simply a brand new sort. Maybe a Dalmatian, Jack Russell terrier or a Great Dane within the puppy instance above. MICRO-evolution (version) has been found routinely, however MACRO-evolution has NEVER been found, No transitional fossils have ever been determined, and correctly recognized as such. No, evolution is an unproven notion. Evolution isn't a technology, however is a faith. Science, of direction, includes remark, utilizing on or extra of our 5 senses (style, sight, odor, listening to contact) to reap skills approximately the sector, and being in a position to copy the remark. No residing scientist used to be there to discover the primary existence forming in a few primeval sea. No residing scientist used to be there to discover the “large bang” a few billions of years in the past. No residing scientist used to be there to discover the meant formation of the earth. No scientist used to be there, no human witness used to be there to look those parties happening. And they absolutely can't be repeated in these days. All the proof a scientist has exists simplest within the reward. The typical individual (adding pupils) don't seem to be taught that scientists have simplest the reward and can't deal instantly with the beyond. Evolution is a notion approach approximately the beyond situated at the phrases of guys who weren't there, however who're making an attempt to give an explanation for how the entire proof of the reward (that's fossils, animals, crops and many others.) originated. Webster’s Dictionary defines faith as follows: “Cause, precept or approach of ideals held to with passion and religion.” Surely that is an apt description of evolution. Evolution is a notion approach – A RELIGION ! May God bless you as you research His Word <:)))><

I am a Christian who believes in reincarnation (a form of), I do not view homosexuality as a sin, choice, behavior, addiction or habit, and I don't believe it is my job.

I simply believe that this person had more lifetimes as a certain gender, therefore they more inclined towards the opposite gender in the previous life.

I see this topic as no longer beating a dead horse with a stick, but rather, equine chunky salsa.

Pixie,. you are right on...100%. The medical facts remain and yet certain people refuse to open their eyes to the evidence.

So rather than me pull my hair out at the commentary of my "fellow Christians," I'll, instead, not engage in the debate and/or conversation (should that actually happen).

With Regards

For those of us not trained as you, let's define "homosexualism" as a sexual/emotional attraction to one's own gender, and is manifested in thoughts, attitudes, and physical deeds.
In the eyes of God, the Bible states that "homosexualism" - whether an inherited condition, a natural predisposition, a disease, an abnormal mental condition, a choice, whatever - is both a sin and an abomination. Paul goes on to say that [unrepentent] homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Some homosexuals will repent -- some will find it easy, others will struggle daily. Regardless, to follow the Lord Jesus in faith is inconsistent with continuing homosexualism in your life, just as continuing "murder-ism", drunkedness, etc. To God they are all sin, regardless of the cause, regardless of how accepted it is in society, regardless of how difficult it is to prevent.
Still, they are all forgiveable! The key to a changed life is faith in Christ, and the Holy Spirit will indwell you and minister to you, and begin the process of sanctification.
Our journeys in life are different, and nobody said they would be fair. However, with faith in Christ, we can pick up our cross daily and die to ourselves in order to serve our Lord.

Thanks for the question. I hope I can satisfy your intellectual curiosity with just as good an answer.

Well, first, I must tell you that I am a Christian minister and a psychologist by trade. So, I believe I can empathize with your confusion, as well as inform you as a Bible believer.

It all comes down to the Hebraic mindset and culture of Jesus' and the Apostles' day. People were defined not only by their family line, but also by their conduct, not their thoughts and feelings. It is why you find the emphasis in the New Testament on behaviors concerning one's identity (i.e., most of the Pauline Epistles discuss what one's identity in Christ is concerning those members of the church, then about how to conduct oneself since this is your identity, for an example see the entire 3rd chapter of the Pauline Epistle to the Colossians in the NT). People are whom they come from (i.e., reborn as a child of God) and what they do (conduct one's life as Jesus did). It is why same sex attractions are not mentioned, but the corresponding behavior is in Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9, and 1 Timothy 1:10.

However, but the root of one's behavior (the fruit, pardon the pun), one's thoughts and feelings, are included in theological terms in the root, mostly under the word "Sin", as an entity and power. Yes, behavior can be a "sin", with a lower case "s", but the same sex sexual inclinations come from "Sin", with a capital "S", being under this power. They are not to be seen as a "sin", which is the term that most Christians use, and apparently you have been informed about. Now, all humanity, whether the root direction and expression of one's sexuality is gay, bi, straight, or whatever, is under this power, and one not more than another! Therefore, all human sexuality is broken in some form, ever since our ancestors fell into this condition called "Sin". All of us have sinned, due to Sin, and our powerless to do anything remedial in nature to cure themselves from this condition called "Sin". Unfortunately, many Christians are taught that heterosexuality is always natural, and always holy, unsinful as expressed in a monogamous framework ordained by God. They are wrong. Under this power it is misdirected (why so many guys are hooked on porn) and most likely out of control (hence, one night stands, shot-gun weddings, pedophilia, broken marriages, transgendered conditions, etc.) The power of Sin is seen most clearly at work in addicts of all kinds. And what do the anonymous programs tell them? Yep, that they are "powerless" over their behaviors and condition.

So, how does one come out from under this powerless state where our desire is for, and we lust after, the same sex, the opposite sex, both, children, adolescents, animals, or anything else in life? Again, just as AA states, it is by surrender, as a child would with his or her parent, and handing our lives over God as we understand Him. Surrender and faith breaks the power of this Sin, so that we begin to "desire" God, not others or substances. It is the goal of the Christian ex-gays, ex-straights, ex-bis, etc. to live holy lives, not a "heterosexual" one. The two choices one has is either celibacy or matrimony (contrary to what many believe, many ex-gays do better than ex-straights when it comes to faithfulness and sexually fulfilling their spouse).

Lastly, I must add that labeling one "gay" due to one feelings and thoughts is a Western cultural construct we're taught, not unbiased and objective thinking. Noone is unbiased and objective when it comes to metaphysical and philosophical presuppositions.

Wait...is your only disagreement here that people assume that homosexuals are having same-sex relations? Seriously, I thought you would have delved more into the biological basis for homosexuality, rather than arguing the semantic differences between the condition of homosexuality and the behavior associated with it.

I have found that most Christians who think this way are not open to hearing about logic and reason. Even though what you wrote is very eloquent, it falls of deaf ears.
