does anyone know if its illegal to copy dvds which ive bought form shops to ipods for me personal use?
if so does anyone know a good converter?

It is legal to copy to a temporary storage medium. e.g. iPod, PC hard drive, etc.

It is illegal to copy to a permanent storage medium e.g. DVD, etc.

Well, you don't own the dvd. You're renting it. You only have rights to that dvd for as long as you rent it. Since that's only a few days, people wouldn't normally think to do that. You would have to back it up, and then delete it when you returned the movie. Actually, even if you owned the movie, there hasn't been a solid line drawn in the sand, so to speak. We're still not sure whether or not it's legal to copy a dvd if we own it. In some parts of the US there have been rulings favoring the consumer. But there's no law that outright allows it. It's all based on "Fair Use" (look it up) and its interpretation. Fair use covers all things copyrighted, but it was written before digital media became prominent, and so it doesn't mention anythign about it.

it is perfectly legal to copy dvds to playstations and ipods. Try AMV convert tool.

I always use iskysoft dvd to iPod converter to help me convert my dvds to my iPod.It works well for me.It can even merge elected titles or chapters into one file.

no it's personal use maybe windows media player would it burns my cd's

yes its legal. nero is a good tool to use.
