It's not until puberty that we start liking the opposite sex. Doesn't that hint that sexual orientation is a biological condition and not a conscious choice?

lol Morey....I had to laugh at that. It's called hormones....there is not attraction until puberty so up until then, they are basically rivals. Although I will admit seeing many young children that do like the opposite sex, in a non sexual way of course. Biological, yep, sure is.

Not true many girls & boys start liking the opposite sex from a very young age. My sons included say they have girlfriends and they're 7 & 9 they have been liking girls since Kindergarten.

That hasn't been my experience with my own children. My son, who is 6, is very popular with both the boys and girls in his class and plays trucks just as well as dolls. My daughter, age 8, has just as many friends who are boys as she has girl friends. When little kids don't like members of the opposite sex, I think it is because the adults around them convince them that the other gender is different and and that some things are "girl things" and some things are "boy things". This naturally leads to a situation where one's own things are superior, and the "Other" isn't to be respected. I don't think this has to have anything to do with sex.

Actually, to further back that up, the reason why boys and girls don't like each other at that age is because of the tension caused from being around them (since the brain, seeing their facial features, is able to identify them as different from themselves), and that results in being uncomfortable around one another, which, once coupled with sexual arousal at puberty, is later translated more effeciently to be attraction in the mind, rather than repulsion. Those who are gay do not have this tension, which is why they are able to befriend women more easily than men can.

Not all of us do. I was liking girls when I was about 5. I had my first crush when I was 7.

Though, I'm a bit different then most. I can tolerate alone time and kept little friends. Always stood apart.

I'm with Bill on this one. Though my crushes tended to revolve around movie stars and singers (this is going to date me but.... ex River Pheonix and Michael Jackson).

However, I think it has to do with hormones. The body doesn't yet have the hormones required and the body isn't mature enough.
