Les Halles is great food and a really great value. French bistro-style steakhouse. Anthony Bourdain (No Reservations on Travel Channel and A Cook's Tour on Food Network) used to be the Executive Chef there and is still the Chef at Large.

Churrascaria Plataforma (in the back of the Belvedere Hotel near Times Square). Brazilian steakhouse.

Chimichurri Grill (Argentinian Steakhouse). Used to be exceptional, but Chef Jorge Rodriguez and his wife divorced. I believe that Chef Rodriguez now runs the kitchen at their New Jersey location and his now ex-wife runs the front of the house at the NYC location. I have been to the NYC location several times, but the latest (Sep 2006) was good but not as exceptional as previous experiences had been.

Craft 19th & Park Ave. S. is extraordinary. Alfred Portale's Gotham Grill at 12 E. 12th St. is an excellent standard. Keen's Chop at 36th & 6th is one the best most under recognized steakhouses in the city. There are many.
