YOu get what you pay for.

Effective range is roughly half a mile, but note that that is line of sight. Hills, bridges, turns, anything can get in the way of reading the signal accurately. Of course, those disrupt the cop's radar as well and his laser too.

I have a Valentine and though it's pricey at $450 it's paid for itself many times over.

You have to learn how to use the beep system. Pay attention to your surroundings....1-2 beeps garage-door opener, or store security sys. 2-beeps take your foot off the gas...and be ready to hit the brake if you get 3beeps. you get 4 beeps and the thing goes crazy....you been shot......
thats how my 100$ Uniden, worked....
never got a ticket w/ it on.....

Most departments are using laser units. Where I live, the unit is not dectable until the button is squeezed and by then, it's too late.

You can, or should be able to change the sensitivity. I have found that the more expensive detectors work quite well.

i dont know if they are effective as they used to be...police have upgraded there radar to bounce from vehicle and back so there isn't nothing to detect if he isn't using it.
