Last night I had a troubling dream of a dear friend who died 7 years ago when we were 16. In my dream I was the age I am now, but everyone else, including my friend, was seven years younger. my friend was alive in the dream as well. I had the knowledge I have now and tried to tell my friend not to come visit me, he would die on the way (that is how he died in real life- coming to see me). He came to see me anyway as he did in real life. In the dream, everything happened the way it really did, but I was older and I knew it was coming. The dream was not as if I was remembering, it was as if it were happening again, but he is already dead and has been for years.
In the dream I was with his family when they heard he died (in real life I was at home by myself). I kept trying to comfort his family, but I was no help. My heart broke in the dream as it did in real life. I didn't have any experiences that made me think of him yesterday any more than normal. What do you think this dream means?

The question I would ask of you, is did/do you feel guilt about it, that he died on his way to see you, have you had it in the back of your mind that the two were somehow connected? The two are not connected, he didn't die because he was on his way to see you, he died because it was his time, but you were very young then, and kids can make some strange connections that way. Perhaps you pulled it out of the vault, and dusted it off in order to review it from a more mature perspective? Your dream suggests that you aren't ready to give up that idea, though, and you tried to comfort his family out of feeling that you were somehow responsible for his passing. But perhaps it's a sign of growth on your part, that you have taken it out to look it over....

It probably means that you still haven't resolved the death of your friend. It might also mean that if you could turn back time, you would make sure he didn't come to your house that day, and therefore die on the way. I think that with your knowledge now, you would change back time if you could and stop him from coming to your house. I'm sure that whatever you said in the dream, it didn't have any affect on him because I think you never did tell him not to come 7 years ago.

There are a lot of people who use self-talk to handle what is going on inside their minds. When self-talk is not monitored cautiously it can lead to drastic effects not only on one’s personality but also affects its mentality and psychology. Self-talk is a type of conversation which we conduct with ourselves. In literature we call it soliloquy. Brain’s reticular activating system never forgets what we repeat again and again. Ironically this system can not recognize what is beneficial to the individual and what is not. Think you can, think you can't; either way, you'll be right- a saying goes like this. Therefore when ever we ‘talk’ with ourselves, we should be cautious, very cautious in fact. There are a lot of audio programs which can help and there are a lot of online books. If I recall there is a book ‘self-talk solutions’ which is every effective in this scenario.

You still feel unresolved about his death or feel some responsibility because he was coming to visit you at the time even though your concisous mind knows you had nothing to do with it.

My dad struggled with this issue over the death of his dad. It was WWII and he was in the military and had gas ration coupons because he was on leave. He used them to put gas in his dad's car because his dad was out of gas and had no coupons. His dad took the car out and was killed by a drunk driver. My dad always felt some responsibility about that, even though he really had none.
