It is ok with me, to really make an appearance show up in your nightgown, say you were so late you did not even have time to change. The skimpier the better (you and the night appearal).

What do you mean by fashionably late? A few minutes? A half an hour? An hour?

Actually, it is not o.k. to be late for work unless there is trouble with traffic or the weather or something like that. Even then, it is appropriate or considerate to call ahead if possible.

If you just want to make an appearance, why not turn in your notice and just show up now and then? The company can give your job to someone who will show up and do the work.

No. In the business world it is "fashionably early" to work. When you go to the company party then you can be "fashionably late". If you want to make an appearance be there before your boss and look like you have been working for some time.

No it is not okay to be fashionably late. This is work, not a social event, and you are supposed to be a responsible adult. If you are habitually late, you can be fired. Then everyone will remember the "appearance" you made as you left the the building for the last time.

I suppose it depends on where you work, but in my experience the workplace is not a place to be fashionably late. My managers wouldn't have been impressed or amused by it. I'd save making an appearance for going out for cocktails or a party!

"Fashionably late"? To WORK?

Sure... only if you want to work there no longer than your probationary period.

If you want to make an appaerance, wear loud ties or flashy socks-- IF you are allowed to. If you want to stay in the workforce and not t-off your co-workers, show up on time. The time to "make an appearance" is at a party, not a job.

If you want to make "an appearance" at work, do so by being EARLY, not late. Doing so will show you to be dedicated and loyal to the company, and save the diva stuff for your own time.

Yeah, it's okay. You can actually have your cake and eat it, too, because after you make enough fashionably late appearances at work, you can make monthly appearances to pick up your unemployment check.
