it is very unlikely that it is your fuel pump. dakota/durango pumps are extremely rare to fail. swap the relay to a different hole to make sure it's not that. it sounds more like a cam or crank sensor problem. take it to a shop and see if there are codes. if not, they need to drive it with the scanner on until it dies, then they will be able to see what is happening.

yes that's how they usually start out its overheating, and this makes it shut off,you will probably have to get it replaced before too long, but do this take it and have the computer scanned on it to make sure you have no trouble codes on it,this will assure you that its just narrowed down to the pump, they also have a pump relay that will do the same thing,by having it scanned this might tell you if there's anything else causing that to happen, what its doing could be other things besides a fuel pump, also having it scanned may save you some money on repairing it ,this will take the guess work out of it,good luck with it.

You bet cha. And they go out quite frequently. And if you're MIL lamp isn't coming on and staying on, I would bet money the pump is going. It usually doesn't give a code. And the fuel filter is fastened to the bottom of the pump inside the tank.

They usually give out all together not once in a while. Have you changed your fuel filter lately?

Clear the fault codes with a scanner, or disconnect the battery for 5 minutes(same effect). If the computer still has the fault code, you will get the same result. Clearing the codes should resolve the issue. Hope this helps.

it is imperative that you establish that it is not your fuel pump relay.it sounds like this is the problem to me.swap it and see if the fault still arises.make sure all the electrical connections are100%good.
