Hmm, I think he/she meant areas that are weak or decalcified. The weakening of the enamel can be found anywhere on a tooth. ie facial if pt have braces and doesn't brush well bacteria can weaken area surrounding metal bracket or at gumline if pt doesn't brush or miss area plaque and bacteria remain near gumline and breakdown enamel layer.
Sometimes pt have conditions such as enamel hypocalcification or dentinogenesis imperfecta in which case the structure of their teeth are weak and prone to decay. You know if you have these conditions b/c you would have numerous fillings already

This frequently happens around the gum line when too many sweets are eaten and or drunk. Chewing gum can also cause this problem. The porosity is where the teeth have begun to calcify. Poor diet and poor hygiene has caused the teeth to begin decaying.

THIS DESCRIPTION BY YOUR DENTIST WAS INACCURATE AND A POOR CHOICE OF WORDS AT BEST.
IN YOUR CASE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN AREAS OF DE-CALCIFICATION, OFTEN TIMES CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE SODA CONSUMPTION OR ACIDIC FOODS SUCH AS SUCKING ON LEMONS.
THIS WOULD LEAD TO INCREASED POROSITY OF THE TEETH WHERE THE WHITE TOOTH ENAMEL AND THE YELLOWISH TOOTH DENTIN MEET, (AT THE GUM LINE).
TEETH THEMSELVES ARE NEVER POROUS.
