The 30 days will be up tomorrow, and Im not sure where to go from there. I never even heard of this creditor, nor did I know it was on my credit report until I checked it. It's supposedly from a telephone co. in california, which I never had. I have never had a phone in my name there ever. Im not sure as to what to do from here, Please help!!

I have verified with all 3 CRA, and it all comes back verified. I've even sent out verfication letters and validation letters, all certifed w/ return reciept. Still, they won't remove it. The CRA are considering it frivolous. Not to mention, I did have a few other accounts and addresses that were not mine removed. Neither the CRA or the Collections Agency are giving me any information I ask for. The haven't even proved its mine! Its American Agencies if that helps, collection for 10PB PACBELL. Somehow I feel Im getting screwed because they are shady!!

If this is the only wrong thing on your credit you can dispute it yourself. If you do a search for the credit bureau that has the mistake on it (or all 3 if it's on all 3 reports) in google you can go to their home pages. Here's the 3 bureaus:

TransUnion
Equifax
Experian

They have dispute directions there. You send them a written dispute providing proof that it's an error and they have 30 days to review it and contact the other company. If the telephone company in California said in writing that you have the right to dispute it then send the credit company a copy of that letter too.

Be unemotional and factual. Provide PROOF that you didn't live in California at the time (maybe a phone bill for the house you were in at the time with your name on it), etc.

If they won't remove it you can go to the next level, which is to contact a credit attorney. But if it's really just the one item you don't really need an attorney for that.

Dispute the entry with the credit bureaus as not being your debt. Did you try that before you contacted the creditor?

Did you sent your request for validation via certified mail return receipt?

Do a second dispute with the credit bureaus, indicate that the debt is not yours and the creditor failed to respond to your request for validation. They should remove it.

There seems to be a rash of antique phone bills showing up on people's credit reports. They are usually small amounts and people actually pay them off even if they are not theirs just to get rid of them. I suspect a "scumbag" collector is making a tidy sum off this scam.

What collection company is trying to collect from you? Please be aware I was sued by a collections company American Agencies to be exact. for a telephone company SBC.I had to counter sue the company ..They also sued me one month befor the statue of limitations ran out..My bill was for $749.59 and the tried t sue me for $1300.00 the bill should of never been mine to Begin with it was the phones company fault for such a large bill...but that's another story. Anyway make sure when you get debt validation that that company ownes that debt..you wouldn't believe how many times that debt was sold
and the old companies never were removed off your credit report.
