The Majority of Americans are religious because they are afraid to go against years of indoctrination, dogma, and dependence on "Churchers" do to their thinking for them.

It has been a difficult journey, but it is great to be free of this. Free will cannot exist until one is free from irrational beliefs.

EDIT: Someone above named Hankredwons posted the paraphrased assertion above the the country originated with religious beliefs. He is correct. Europeans arrived, however, and subjugated the Natives' religious beliefs and substituted their own. Sometimes they didn't even bother, just murdering the American Indians without even asking questions.

The religion of majority of Americans is rule of law (GWB).
Majority of Americans are mentally ill (Harvard Med Journ).
Mainstream religion in America is Roman Catholic (Barna).
Atheism is fastest growing religious perversion in America.
America the Great is as twice fallen as Baby-lon the Great.

God is not great. At least atheists have that realized.
God is the "greatest" of great-->greater-->greatest.
For only greatest of three things never fails: 1Cor13.

If I were an American, I'd be learning to speak Chinese asap.
For China owns much of the T's-debt, owns the steel industry,
has as many foot soldiers as US population, is hungry for oil,
has doubled it's military spending yearly, building mega ships,
have soldiers in SA, And is watching you all, perhaps for the right moment, when you're busy debating who's a real McCoy of Hatfields vs McCoys, instead of grow up fast, or be slaves.

May all in America grow up fast, rather than regress further.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

I've seen prayer work. I know from whom my protection and provision come. The Lord is His name, the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe in our Christian heritage as Americans. Only Americans lay down their lives to help other nations. Only Christian Americans are found helping in suffering natural disaster countries where this same country has killed and persecuted Christians. Why are Americans so religious? If you are calling religion Christian, then it is because of our Great God.

Why is anybody religious?

It's where the heart is. We recognize that we are going to die, we know that we are sinners, and so the idea is to make peace with God so that we will gain the benefits of God's promises. The first promise:
Believe in the name of the Lord Jesus, and be saved!

People like me have looked beyond the things we can control to nullify death. By trusting God for His promises we get to live.

If you can understand that, then you will know that it's a very good reason.

What freedoms are protected by the First Amendment?...
("Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.")

The first things that the Founding Fathers were concerned about was the right to practice one's religion as one saw fit, to speak as one saw fit, to gather as one saw fit, and to get justice from the government.

Whatever their own feelings about religion were, the men who drafted the governing documents of this nation were aware that religion should not be legislated or regulated. It seems that this freedom has caused a great variety of religious beliefs and practices here, for which I am grateful.

America is one of the few nations it seems that does not have a national religion (national religions traditionally keep non-believers pretty quiet until they are angry). That encourages the people to try to grow their religion (population-wise) until it seems as though it is the national religion (as christianity sometime seems to be the national religion), due to majority rules mentality - at which time they might hope to make laws that guide people toward the kind of behavior that they believe is right (like blue laws - some states don't allow liquor stores to be open on Sunday, for example).

At the same time, the folks that are interested in the less populated religions need to work hard, so as not to allow any religios lobby groups to further influence civil laws - lest their liberty and freedom of religion be impinged upon.

American's as individual are not necessarily "so religious" - religion is a sensitive subject to a group of people who believe "eternal vigilance is the price of freedom" (and for whom religious freedom is so very important).

Peace!

I am religious for the simple fact that I want to know that when I die I am going to heaven! The Lord is in my heart...and I know that it is purely by the blessings of God above that I have such wonderful friends and family in my life! I love the Lord and everything that HE does for me each and every day! I can only hope and pray that more people would come to the foot of the cross and be saved!

God Bless! ( :

Because the religious zealots of the Protestant Reformation came to North America to escape persecution in their homeland. People who really didn't care enough about religious freedom to risk their lives for it in the wilderness of the New World stayed in their homeland.

So all of the really religious people immigrated to the U.S., and the less religious people stayed in Europe.

I do not think Americans are so religious... The fact is that religious people talk louder... But when you look at the participation of atheists in YA! you notice that atheists are much more coherent and consequent in their positions!

I am not religious and I live in America. There are a small number of us that are not religious (Atheists), sadly we are the most discriminated group of people in America.
