Consider the options.

Linguistically, a works, but it makes no sense in context. What poor worker would make the possibility of his being fired a condition for his working harder?

Choice b also works linguistically, but presents the same logical error as choice a.

Choice c does not work linguistically. The phrase "in case that" is awkward and confusing. However, it does work contextually.

But choice d, for fear, fits both contextually and linguistically. Why is the poor worker laboring harder? Because he fears for his job.

Choices A, B and C do not make sense. I don't know how to explain, lol. But if you try using the choices one by one, you will know only D makes sense.
