Well, I live in Nebraska and I can tell you that Ernie has made an art out of wasting the taxpayer's money and the government's time.
I agree with a LOT of what Ernie stands for and I appreciate his enthusiasm for his pet causes, but he uses an expensive filibuster when all he needs to do is have some polite conversations with his fellow state senators in the hallways to get the job done. He once staged a filibuster that consisted of him reading a very long obituary about his dead CAT, just to prove a point about how animals deserve legal rights. He didn't HAVE to do the filibuster -- he just does it for show.
The other problem I have with Ernie is that he is incredibly prejudiced against anybody who doesn't have the same skin color he does. He has levied accusations against entire people groups that simply are not true.
It's a real shame because the guy could have accomplished a lot of good in the Nebraska state legislature if he just would have had some manners.
As for his lawsuit against God, it's no surprise. Ernie is a very vocal atheist and he'll do anything to get a rise out of people of faith because of his deep prejudice against them. If you ask me, it's less about "frivolous lawsuits" -- he's the master at them, after all! -- and it's more about trying to tick off religious people.

I think he was trying to make a point and he did it rather well. He is protesting a proposed law in Nebraska that would limit the filing of lawsuits that are deemed "frivolous." To demonstrate that any American should be able to sue anyone else, he filed a lawsuit against God. It certainly got the attention of lots of folks, didn't it?
p.s. -- I am "conditionally" in favor of the proposed legislation that he's against. I haven't read the full text, so I cannot say I'm 100% behind it. But my opinion doesn't matter, since I don't live in Nebraska.
EDIT: LOL, I think his constituents would be disappointed if he didn't act outrageously. They've probably become accustomed to being notified of allegedly odious legislative matters in this way. Apparently, he's been doing this since the 1970's. If he was quiet and conservative, then they'd accuse him of sweeping it under the carpet!

It's silly that he'd waste the courts' time and his constituents' tax dollars in an attempt to make a point about lawsuits. He's probably going to rile up a lot of religious loonies, too, which'll be funny, at least.

It seems only fair. If it truly is an act of G-d, then G-d is responsible.
