When you are born you don't know ANYTHING. You are essentially born an atheist.

The first time we are born with a sin nature, that essentially makes us slaves to sin.
When we are born again we are given a new nature by which we are able to overcome the sin in our lives.

The "born again" is in reference to the "death, burial and resurrection" of Jesus. Jesus' specific teaching on being born again can be found below, the same question was asked 2000 years ago..
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." John 3:3-7
Once you are baptized (born of water), you have been "born again". Baptism, according to this and other scriptures, is essential.

Jesus is the one who coined the term "born again" ... john 3.
you are born again b/c you leave your "old" life behind & you are "made new" in the Holy Ghost ... you begin living for God, not for yourself.
i know people who in their old life were alcoholics, permiscuous, dressed like street-walkers... (you get my point), then when they got filled w/ God's Spirit (& water baptized in His Name), they were like a completely different person.... for the good, living for God.
if you think you are born again & your life hasn't changed... then you were not born again.... there is a problem somewhere.
make sure that you know what being born again is ....
peter's message in acts 2:38 & Jesus message in john 3 speak of how to be born again.
make sure you are born again according to these scriptures.

Being born again refers to the awakening of the spirit through the establishment of a relationship with Christ and the renouncing of the sins of your past.

Actually since you don't know anything, you can't be born as anything. You haven't heard of God yet, so how can you choose to not believe in Him and be an Atheist?

Christians called themselves Born Again because in the old Testament, we could not possibly live up to the laws, because of our sins. Jesus "covered" our sins for us, and we became "new"...born again.

NO! When you are "born again" It is an acception of becoming a Christian. The death of your old, sinful, hatered life, and the birth of your new, loving, godly, caring life. Hope I could help... :D

Being born again by holy spirit.. Thing about that is not everyone is born again with holy spirit.

Because when we choose to be baptized, we die from our sinful life as we are lowered into the water. When we rise, we rise to a new life dedicated to Jesus Christ. We died to our old life and are born again into our new life.
