What's more sad than the people who might be "doggin'" you for being an atheist?-- that these religious zealots doggin' you are partly responsible for the way too many atheists stereotype anyone who believes there is a God.
There are victims of "doggin" at both ends, the atheistic and the religious. My experiences are not the same as yours, and I've been more exposed to the side of the problem you may not want to hear about: the "brights" doggin' people like me because these intellectuals have instantly concluded all spiritual beliefs are supernatural nonsense (for example, the existence of God belongs in the same category as believing in Santa Claus and, as Freud believed, is no more than a superstitous belief serving the purpose of anxiety reduction providing a false sense of comfort. Or, they think Skinner was right who believed anything "supernatural" is only the result of "fictitious reinforcment"--nothing more than a form of operant conditioning). All this talk about how there are more great intellectuals who are atheists doesn't overshadow that science has also had its share of foolish thinkers with reductionistic arguments regarding the "nature" of human behavior. As science marches on in our society, anyone who believes anything that can't be proven empirically is being considered the bearer of nonsense.
What is more sad than your own humbling experience is that given our way of life TODAY, which is most heavily influenced in so many sectors by SCIENTIFIC thinking (though religious influence still exists, but Joseph Campbell was right: Its a myth to say that our society is still abundantly influenced by religious belief. There may not be unlimited stem cell research yet but presently you can't pray in public schools. Public schools teach about science not world religions.), as soon as you leave open the possibility for the existence of God you are instantly labelled dogmatic, ignorant, not "bright," and among those who score low on a test that has a built-in definition of intelligence equated with logical reasoning, which is a serious bias based on no great fact but is more indicative of the values of Western culture. The world is not 100% logical despite what some scientific atheists are hoping for.
You can't be responsible for anyone but yourself, but please take responsibility for yourself!

Why do atheist have persecution mania, really, I need to know??? you sound like a mormon. When I was an atheist and got out of the mormon faith, I was so releived, I was not brainwashed anymore or indoctrinated or mind controled, why do you feel so persecuted by religious people??? I just don't get it. As a christian, I don;t go around seeking atheist out, (probably because I understand where an atheist is coming from) maybe you just go around screaming "I'm an atheist, I'm an atheist." and ask for persecution. I never told anyone I was an atheist, unless they asked. So just go on with your life and try to be FREE and stop it with the persecution mania, OK!

People need to coexist. I can't stand all of the religious b.s. Everyone is entitled to their own personal belief system.
Personally I don't know if there is a god. I won't know until I die and even then I may not know because if there isn't a god... well I'm dead.
Everyone needs to mind their own business when it comes to such things. We'd all be a lot happier and have a lot more time to focus on what really matters.

What if Christians are wrong and life after death is just sleep or becoming one with the earth--Christians have it made! What if those who don't believe in God are wrong and life after death involves a face to face meeting with the Creator for judgement on how we lived our lives on earth and what should now be done with our soul.
I want to be right for all eternity....it's a long time to live there.
Investigate EVERYTHING before time runs out.

Some christians..not all..feel it is their duty to try and reform us atheist's. I think they try to make us feel guilty and ashamed of being atheist. I am very proud of who I am and what I am. I feel sorry for the christians that have nothing better to do with their day except preach at me and tell me I am going to hell. Their lives would be so much better if they would concentrate their energy on doing something worthwild.

Maybe your open mindedness scares them so they retaliate. That only refers to the people doggin you tho...but there are many decent non-atheists out there.

some of them think "god" sent them to "save" you. what quacks!! and some people cant handle the possibility that they might just be wrong. like the religious people who try to stuff their believes down your throat. they think they are the ones who have it all right. and everyone elses beliefs are wrong. to me, it shows that they have a little doubt in there own religion/beliefs. they may even think your right on some points and/or all points. but they wont ever admit it, instead they try to turn you over to their side! just ignore them, they dont have anything better to do with their time!

(unless you dogg out my God, then i get mad but i still try to be Christlike with the answers or else im no better then the next)

okay I'm a Christian... so what?? I'll tell you what! I'm not perfect, and don't condem others.. But I DO hate to see so many who have taken the wrong paths in life. My God is real... He lives in my heart.. and directs my paths.. do I stray? of course, we all do... We're not supposed to be perfect.. there's only been ONE perfect "man".. that was Jesus Christ, the son of God..... All I can do in this live is try to tell others what peace I've found in a really true loving God.. I'd like to hear that you've considered finding that peace.. just look up.. He's there waiting for you.... God Bless You!
