Why does the U.S. have civilian security contractors in Iraq? Because the rules of engagement are less strict for them than for the regular Army? Or are they CIA operatives working against the Iraqi infrastructure to widen the chasm between Sunni and Shia by perpetrating acts against one and making it seem as if the other did it?

The US military was cut back in the 1990s. The took certain missions away from the military to save money, by not having to pay for their upkeep and training in peace time. They said that any future war we would have to rely on contractors. Nobody cared because since the USSR folded there would be no more wars, and the money they saved was used on social programs. Now we are at war and we have to use them, along with the National Guard and Reserves. This was set up under Clinton and everyone went along with it. Hopefully in the future people will use a little more foresight when it comes to national defense.

So all the high ranking Bush government appointees with stock in those companies can make a killing, and because there aren't enough military or government civilians willing to go to fill all the positions.
Beer is incorrect - there are MANY contractors working for the U.S. government and the gov't is paying them big bucks with our tax dollars. A bunch of them working with the State Department returned fire on a motorcade killing civilians yesterday.
This CIA operatives theory has to be the most farfetched idea I've ever seen!

Security contractors are there to provide security.
They do not carry out operations.
Most of the security contractors in iraq are Iraqi's.
They guard buildings, and construction contractors, so those people can do their jobs.
And contray to most articles about them, All contractors in Iraq who work for the US Government or a US contractor.
Are subject to the military UCMJ.

The private Security companies do not work for the United States, they work for people that need bodygaurds or other forms of protection that are not affiliated with the U.S. Government. Such as Businessmen or other people that are trying to rebuild Iraq.

They are there to supplement the US military for the sole purpose of preventing the need for a draft which would in turn cause such an uproar that the war would be over within one week.

I would attempt to enlighten you a bit but I see from your name that it would be a waste of time.
I see you prefer your propaganda to reality.
Did you convert to islam after OBL declared war on the US or is it that your parents just didn't give you enough attention?
Did you convert in prison or was it because no one else would accept you?
Do you espouse the haram practice of suicide bombings or do you reject AQ, Hamas and Hezbollah?

The government is too darn stupid to admit they do not have large enough standing army so they have to hire civilian contractors.
