The story of Jesus never really ends in the Qur'an, as we are told that Jesus was not killed, but that rather, God raised His beloved prophet up to Him.

*{Behold! Allah said: "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all return unto Me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute.}* (Aal `Imran 3:53)
The Qur'an also points out that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified. Speaking of the Children of Israel, Allah faults their accusations against Mary as well as their claim that they killed Jesus.
*{That they rejected Faith; that they uttered against Mary a grave false charge;

And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger — they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! Those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain.

Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.}* (An-Nisaa' 4:156-158)

The Qur'an confirms that Jesus was raised up by God, and the Prophet Muhammad reassured us that Jesus will be sent down to earth once again before the Day of Judgment in order to re-establish justice and the proper worship of the one Creator.

...........................................
here the tafsir or interpertation of that part:

And for their saying, boastfully, 'We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the Messenger of God', as they claim: in other words, for all of these [reasons] We have punished them. God, exalted be He, says, in repudiating their claim to have killed him: And yet they did not slay him nor did they crucify him, but he, the one slain and crucified, who was an associate of theirs [the Jews], was given the resemblance, of Jesus. In other words, God cast his [Jesus's] likeness to him and so they thought it was him [Jesus]. And those who disagree concerning him, that is, concerning Jesus, are surely in doubt regarding, the slaying of him, for some of them said, when they saw the slain man: the face is that of Jesus, but the body is not his, and so it is not he; and others said: no, it is he. They do not have any knowledge of, the slaying of, him, only the pursuit of conjecture (illā ittibā'a l-zann, is a discontinuous exception) in other words: 'instead, they follow conjecture regarding him, that which they imagined [they saw]'; and they did not slay him for certain (yaqīnan, a circumstantial qualifier emphasising the denial of the slaying).

it was one of the pious followers of jesus , God made him so looks alike jesus peace be upon him , and he was crucified instead.

The Babylonian Talmud states that Jesus was held for 40 days and people sought to speak for him, after that he was stoned.

Crucifixion was an "event" of great interest to the Romes and were commonly recorded, Jesus does not appear in any of those records.

I would say that based on the evidence, we can not conclude whether he was crucified or not, or if he even said the things attributed to him.

I'm reading a book called 'The Jesus Mysteries' that explain Gnosticism a lot. Apparently, there were different theories as to what happened. The most interesting was that Jesus had a twin brother-James-and the two managed to come up with a plan to trick the Romans into thinking he was dead and also to provide an example (motivate) his followers into 'spreading the word'

Some say Judas was somehow mistaken to be Jesus because there is a lot of confusion as to how he died.....

The whole incident has lots of confusion..... some saw Jesus float up and others say he knew he was leaving etc.

I feel rather sure that lots of people were crucified. The question is, was one of them the incarnate god of Abraham?

Many thousands of people were crucified.
Whether jebus was or not does not matter any more or less than any of those others. He was just one more.
