the most common way is that people you live with will tell you so (used to tease my sister about things she said when she was asleep, but then again she was more than happy to return the favor)... If you live alone, I guess the thing to do would be to set up a video camera in your bedroom.... Or perhaps contact a place that helps people with sleep disorders, and let them study you for a few nights...

...Cover yourself in blue paint and sleep on a white sheet? That'll definitely show up the movement... and you could probably sell the art for millions after :P
