TUCSON, Ariz. — Gunmen stopped a pickup truck full of illegal immigrants, shot some and took the rest captive Thursday in an attack that left at least three men dead and two people wounded, authorities said.
Authorities were trying to determine who the gunmen were and said some of the immigrants remained missing.
The men shot three people, one fatally, along a known smuggling corridor near Tucson, then forced several other immigrants in the group to leave with them, Pima County sheriff's officials said.
The bodies of two of those immigrants were found about 10 miles north in the cab of the pickup truck that had been carrying the group.
Two men who were not injured were in custody and telling deputes what happened, and the other immigrants had not been found by midday Thursday. The crime was similar to a robbery Wednesday night more than 70 miles south, near the Mexican border, said Rick Kastigar, the Pima County sheriff's criminal investigations chief. The immigrants were head

north when four men armed with assault rifles in another vehicle forced the truck to stop, Kastigar said. During the confrontation, one man was killed, another was shot in the hand — losing several fingers — and a woman was shot in the chest and suffered a neck injury.

The two wounded immigrants were taken to a hospital with "very, very serious injuries," said sheriff's Sgt. James Ogden.

ok for all of those people who are saying the gunmen were probably illegal immigrants as well, how do you figure? it seems clear to me they were the same type of americans who did the same things to african americans in the 60s. Maybe many of you didn't live through that time but this story sounds eerily familiar.

In no way is that right. i don't condone illegal immigration & I it needs to be controlled but these immigrants were someones father, brother, husband, son. they were people & whatever their crimes were they didn't deserve this end.

It's absolutely horrible & the men that did it should be deported. THey're causing more problems in society than the illegal immigrants.

[From the linked article:

"Investigators did not immediately know a motive for Thursday's attack, but gangs of bandits are known to roam border areas preying on illegal immigrants as they cross into the country. Feuding among smuggling organizations also is not uncommon, sometimes involving demands for ransoms from the immigrants relatives to gain their freedom."]

This could be an exception to the rule, but if it is, what would the motive be? Why would vigilante's permit several of these people to escape uninjured and capable of informing the police? Why would they take captives instead of creating a hostage situation to exploit the media and attract recruits?

Nothing like this is "OK". This is animalistic behavior. Unfortunately, it's characteristic of Zeta's and rival smugglers so, as yet, that's likely the motive.

I know there are millions of law-abiding Mexicans and wonderful Americans of Mexican decent - let's not go there. But the fastest growing subculture in Mexico is the one that despises learning and reading as they consider it "lazy" (according to a Mexican college friend of mine). They start working at puberty and start families soon after. Lesser educated people scarcely ever gain an understanding of law commensurate with those of similar age, etc, but educated.

I'm not sure what Mexican society or government could even do about such a thing.

To me, illegals, committing a crime, were assaulted. Not anything less than a gangster of the 30's being assaulted by citizens out to put an end to that person and his gang. Illegals are breaking the law, and as such are criminals just by doing what they are doing. Even if they may be "good" law abiding people in Mexico, once they come across the border illegally, they are then "not good people" because they are in fact breaking the law. "Good" Mexicans respect our laws and abide by them. Good Americans respect our laws and abide by them. Does this mean that those who attacked the illegals were "good" Americans, no, but there again, until the government begins to do as it says that it will,m vigilantes will move to uphold the law. When the government upholds it's own laws, then there is no need for vigilantes. Do I endorse vigilantes, no. Those who attacked the illegals should be found, and punished. That said, those attacked would not have been had they stayed in their own country. I do feel that a "good" Mexican is one that obeys the law, and does not take matters into their own hands, as the illegals are in fact doing. So, while there are "good" citizens in each country, when they break the law, they are no longer good people, and set themselves up for what ever comes their way.

NO, the law is the law. First, Murder is a felony; violating our border is a misdeamenor. THe law state that murder is worse. For those who keeps comparing traffic violation to illegally crossing the border, our society have decide trafic violation as speeding is very minor, hence, that is why employers exclude traffic violation in job applications.

This is one of the reason why I am against illegal immigration. Illegal immigration lead to more illegal activities. Some of these are commited by illegal immigrants, like Social security fraud, and some are committed against illegal immigrants, like employers violating migrant workers rights or robbing illegal immigrants.

THe question is who attacked them? Many times, it's done by other illegal immigrants. THose who commit the crimes are also familiar with the habits of illegal immigrants. THey are most knowledgable of routes coyotes use. If they are kidnapped, they most likely have connections in Mexico to help with obtaining ransome.

EDIT>>>>> OK who gave a bunch of thumbs down to Carol? All she said is murder is wrong, She hates racist, and she respect some of the views of the Anti's as long as it isn't racist. I just don't understand the minds of some people.

Sounds like either what dude said up there about alien smuggling, or someone is taking this illegal immigration thing into their own hands, since the gov't won't do a damn thing about it.

It's NOT right to kill ANYONE!! Which is why the gov't needs to step up to the plate and do something about this situation. The only way people feel safe in this country is if our gov't supports our well being. That's not happening right now.

The world is full of some really sick people. I am beginning to wonder if the heat out there is adversely affecting people- it seems like the last really disturbing news stories I have read have been from out West. Let me share with you these 2 jewels:

But oddly enough for all we know- it could be that the gunman happens to be an illegal as well.

Dear Liberal News Media:

Illegal Aliens are NOT Immigrants. Immigrant has the connotation that the person has Legally entered a country.

Illegal Aliens don't hurt anyone.......They are here JUST to work....

Being illegal in the U.S. does not carry an automatic death sentence.

For Feather head, U.S. citizens including white ones murder hundreds of times every single day in the U.S., with axes, guns, knives, etc. to pick out a couple of cases labeling all illegals as axe murderers is unwarranted.

No crime is OK by me unless it's in self defense. This didn't appear to be self defense so no.....I don't think it's right. It's not a question of who was more wrong in order to make the other ok.

All I see is that if we can't have enough people to enforce our laws ...... more might feel pressed to do it themselves. People can't continue to thumb their noses at our laws and keep thinking people are just going to lay down and take it because too many are whining about what they don't like. Push people to extreems and you can't expect them to not react.
