I have three years of honorable service, clean back round and all around great guy and have been thinking of joining law enforcement for a new job. What are the requirements to join the force at the city?

Does not matter where, for I do not mind traveling to get there.

It seems like all the major cities are constantly recruiting officers, as well as many of the police departments with over 200 to 300 officers. Getting a job with a smaller agency is sometimes more difficult than the larger ones. Especially if the small agency is paying about the same as the larger ones.

New York City. The primary reason is the strange contract that the department negotiated the last time. In a nutshell, the problem is most of the benefits go to the people who were already on the job at the expense of new recruits. The pay scale for example: stating salary $25,100 per year. After six months it is $32,000. After 5 1/2 years it jumps to $59,588.

The cost of living in New York is extremely high. In Nassau County New York the police start at $34,000 and go up to $91,737 after 8 years. Many of New York's Finest are jumping ship.

Denver PD, always seem to have difficultly maintaining their numbers-think they are about 300 officers under last time I heard.

Apparently they have a screwy hiring system, but might be worth a shot.
