alien_sporez is right, it is the low braking pad light. You will need to have your brake pads and maybe rotors changed..

The Catera has two warning lights that are unusual to it. One indicates that the fuel cap is loose.
But I think the one you're talking about is the low brake pad warning light. It indicates that your brake pads are getting low and will need to be replaced soon.
I'd check with a local GM dealer because I can't recall how each warning light appears, but I'm pretty sure the light is a circle with 3-dash line on the left, and 3-dash line on the right

Well, since it is impossible to post a picture of a warning light here, I can offer you a place to download an owners manual.
GM manuals can be downloaded FREE from this site:
https://www.mygmlink.com/main/US/en/gm/home?cmp=gmcomhp
There should be a legend for the warning lights in the owners manual & you may want to save the manual to your computer for future reference.
I hope this helps.

YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.
TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.
LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.

Use a test light to make sure that you are even getting power to the wires going to the brake light switch. If you are getting power to the wire and you still don't have brake lights try replacing the brake light switch. I should have said this first but make sure the brake light fuse is good.

The dealer will be your best bet..if it is something important, get it repaired properly--the light is on for a reason. Things do go bad and maintenance is part of owning a car.

You can take it to autozone and they do a free computer check and give you a print out of what the lights are and what they mean. Maybe its a coolant light.
