well i raise labs and also use them for watch dogs. i have four of them. they all bark when strangers come, sometimes bite. i think you should try playing with him like give him a rope toy and then play tug o war with him do stuff to make him meaner it sounds like you have him spoiled. if that doesn't work get a pit bull lol! no seriously though. maybe he doesn't feel threatened and trust me if someone was trying to break in to your house if he has any lab in him at all he will bark probably attack them.

That's totally normal. Actually, that's a good thing, because you'll never have to worry about your dog biting someone at random, etc. He might not seem like a good watchdog, but lots of dogs understand when someone's an intruder and will protect your home anyway. Also, just having a dog is a big deterrent to intruders. If they think you have a dog, they'd rather go somewhere easier.

I think it's just normal. I mean not every dog is vocal. I have two golden retrievers. The male one barks at every stranger, even kids and babies. it's quite annoying though. but the female one is friendly with everyone. I'm not a dog trainer though but my advice is, if you want to have a watchdog, why don't try at German shepherd dog they will do the job just right!

You have a normal friendly, well-adjusted dog that is very friendly toward all people and is not inclined to bark. This is a good thing. Forget having a watchdog and just get an alarm system.

Most dogs will bark or growl when they feel threatened. So if someone comes in your house or whatever, the dog can sence that its not suppose to be there. My dog usally does not bark at anything unless she feels threatened by someone or something. Every so often she will bark for no reason.

This is pretty normal at his age. He is still very young. It shouldn't bee too much longer before he starts to get more protective. Right now by barking and "protecting" you from those other animals he is training. Don't encourage hime to go at the other animals, let him know it's okay for them to be there. Right now you are his pack leader, let him know you like the animals and he will back off from that and "develop" his people boundaries next. I have a code word/phrase for my dogs to let them know this person is okay, ("who is it?", and a code word for them to keep watching, (watch 'em), and call them to me and sit until I let them know to continue "watching" , or I let them know this person is okay to be there.
He'll grow up some more and learn quickly if you start now. Labs are good dogs, but don't reach adulthood until around 2.

I wish my dog was like yours, I can't even take her out on a walk because she starts barking like crazy at people(not all people, but the ones she seems not to like) It is very irritating. When she was a puppy I used to take her to work, to everywhere I would go, I don't know why she started to act this way. I would say, you are very lucky.

As a professional dog trainer for over 16 years, I have to tell you my strong opinion that you need these group classes for obedience training. http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?9dw5
Other pet warehouses are there to get you to buy their products and hang around their strore. And their trainers are their employees...never forget they have an agenda. Most of the trainers have very little education--if they had actual training and skills they wouldn't be there making just over minimum wage--trust me on this. But even if they did have experience and talent...a group setting is a terrible place for learning to take place. It's distraction training and it is the LAST phase of training not the first. You wouldn't have your child try to do their homework in a toy store, would you? Of course not...the level of distraction would be too high! It's the same with dogs. Having said that, these classes can be an excellent way to socialize dogs...but not to train them. And while they appear to be cheaper than a professional trainer...you have to attend many more sessions to get the same results because of the poor learning environment--so you wind up spending MORE money for less training than you would with a professional. Save your money and go to someone who actually knows how to train dogs. OR, read books and try to train your dog yourself. There is nothing they train at a Petsmart or Petco that you can't do yourself with a couple of hours of reading.

it somewhat is distinctly familiar. Alot of canines gets used to a community and individuals it sees on a ordinary foundation, whether its somebody who in basic terms crosses by ability of the domicile. What you besides might might desire to keep in mind is you're no longer exhibiting indications of concern or hardship. Your canine will respond on your exhibiting of strikes besides. as long as you experience secure, your canine is going to experience secure. in case you're slumbering and your canine hears somebody are available the domicile I assure they are going to act in yet in any different case then in case you're unsleeping and exhibiting a content fabric emotion. i would not hardship at this component that your canine isn't aggressive in the direction of strangers who are not doing something incorrect. it somewhat is amazingly stable.
