and reperations for all the past death and persecution at their hands?
The bible clearly states thou shall not suffer a witch to live. Is that not hate speach?

No.

We should simply continue to represent ourselves honestly, and fight for universal religious freedom and tolerance, and, while we're at it, acknowledge our own soiled past and violence, thereby setting a living example to others.

To quote myself from a different post:

Any group that is not willing to acknowledge their violent past is standing in the way of healing. We have all wronged each other. Denying that (because it wasn't ME, personally) does nothing to help mend the grievous wrong done.

An acknowledgment of past wrongs goes a long way towards helping the decedents of those wronged to accept that the attitudes that led to violence against them are not still there.

Good grief. You would sue people for something that happened hundreds of years ago? You're going to sue people who weren't around at the time of "persecution" and who generally denounce it? Brilliant!

The simple fact is that none of these actions hurt me. You generally can't sue on behalf of other people. Just because I call myself witch and pagan and other people called those people witches and pagans (although they generally didn't even identify themselves as such), does not mean we have anything in common.

Look up witch in the dictionary. It has a lot of definitions, some of these very nasty. I wouldn't want them in my community and understand why others wouldn't either. You can't pic and choose definitions. You have the use the one they meant. Many Bibles don't use "witch" anyway.

Protestant began whilst they did no longer have self assurance in Catholic. They veered off from the Catholic Church. i think of the Catholic Church is strict and places too plenty emphasis on a human named Mary, the mummy of Jesus. i'm hoping Protestants pontificate Love and Tolerance yet they're human beings too. None of humanity is applicable. purely Jesus advance into. i'm a Protestant yet have not got self assurance the Pope is the anti-christ. and that i think of there's a distinction between Catholic Christians and human beings that are actually not Christians. i do no longer hate the Catholic Church. The homes in reality are so applicable. I purely think of the emphasis could be on the persons who're the physique of Christ.

History major?
How many Wiccans and Pagans do you actually think were killed by Protestants and Catholics? Do yourself a favor and read up on the actual history of Neo-Paganism. Start with religioustolerance.org. As messed up as they are, even they got the history right.

Now, since I know that none of you are going to do your homework, let me help you out. Wicca and Neo-Paganism is about 75 years old. No witches were ever burned at the stake. Imagine I start calling myself a Dragon, and then try to sue the nation of England for killing my ancestors and promoting hate literature.

As Asatru/Forn Sidr, I suppose we have a grievance against the Crown of Norway for similar persecutions under the reign of Olaf Tryggvesson, but why open old wounds? These things are long past, and Orlog (Norse karma) will work itself out.

No. Mainly b/c people were really stupid way back then when human being's were being burned. Plus most of the people murdered where christains. Just falsly accused by nut cases who like to maim and torture.
So no.
Plus unless a crime acturaly happens to a person like that the judge would dismiss the case so it would be pointless.

If something happens in the modern age, yes, I believe Pagans should use the legal system for justice.

But suing for past events that the current-day individuals had nothing to do with and no control over? That's just stupid, IMHO.

ROTFL
We don't care. At least I don't. I know who and what I am. I am Heathen. If they think they can take me or mine, I welcome their effort. There are more of us then they think. They won't like what they find on the Asatru front. We do not suffer fools gladly.

Besides if we sue, it would be for plagiarism. And someone below me is correct. Few if ANY witches were burned. MOST pagan trads are newly revived, not all but most. EVERY religion has blood on it, ours is no better or different. The difference is that some of us don't' bother to hide that fact *shrug* To each their own

yes, it is hate speech, although there is some question as to whether or not it originally said that. either way, if we were able to sue, then everyone would jump on the pagan bandwagon, instead of just the little teenagers who are trying to tick off their parents

LOL. I don't see it having teeth, really. For starters, most victims of the burnings etc weren't witches at all. They were accused of witchcraft, but most of them were just old ladies who went to church and happened to know some herbal remedies that didn't always work.
