Yes, Marine band members go thru Marine Boot.

They also must complete Marine Combat Training (MCT).

Then they attend the Marine Corps School of Music

Marine band members have the responsibilty to augment headquarters defense in a combat environment.

members of the Presidents Own Marine Band in Washington DC.

Do not attend Marine recruit training, and are enlisted as an E-6 in the Marine Corp.

By law, they may not be assigned to any other Marine Corps duties.

The President's Own Marine Corps Band (the main one) doesn't require that you go to boot camp, you have to audition and be selected for that band. But you can't do anything else in the Marine Corps either. The bands assigned to places like Camp LeJeune, or the 1st Marine Division Band are Marines like any other. They go to Boot Camp and to Marine Combat Training like every other Marine. They need the training because when the unit they are assigned to is deployed, they are used often times as security for the Headquarters element. When I went to Afghanistan back in 2001, the band formed part of the security perimeter around the airfield when we first got there.

I went to Boot Camp with a guy who was going to be in the band. The DIs harrassed his @$$ more than anyone elses.

You can "enlist" into the Marine Corps Band. this is the U.S.M.C. band at Eighth and "I" in Washington DC without going through boot camp if you can get selected in the audition process. These are the only "Marines" who do not have to go through recruit training and are not required to qualify with weapons; they do have classes on Marine Corps traditions and history. The Marines Corps bands for the units and bases are selected from active duty Marines and they do go through recruit training as they are Marines first then become band members. You can be selected to the USMC Band from the unit bands so some of the personnel have been through boot camp and some haven't. Since I spent 20 years in the Marine Corps including a tour on recruiting duty I think i have obviously been in the military and the Marines spcifically.

The members of the Marine Band who enter that organization directly do not go through boot camp. Members of other divisional and organizational bands do. By doctrine, the ranks of stretcher bearers in combat are made up from the rolls of "cooks, buglers and bakers". So, that would be the primary duty of a musician in high-intensity combat operations.

Yes they have to do all of that. The only ones that do not have to is "President's Own" Marine Band. If your just a normal Marine in band then you have to go to boot camp and all that stuff.

Yes, All marines are grunts ( They are trained as Marines first, then get their other job training after basic.)

In the Navy we actually had a seperate company for the performers. I suspect it is the same thing.

From what I've seen, I'd say basic yes but infantry no, but I'm sure some one else will come along with a better answer.

It's me again. Yes, you go to boot camp. How else would you be able to call yourself a Marine? SOI, no. Find yourself a Marine recruiter.
