That is not really a breed meant to be kept outdoors. They don't have the coat for it.
If you can't keep her in the house, I hope you will at least move her into the garage.
She should really be kept in the house with the family. Michigan winters are really brutal so I hope you will reconsider leaving her outside.

a Michigan winter will most likely kill a pit bull.. especially a puppy.. I have lived in Michigan for YEARS and have only had ONE dog that did not live in the house in the winter.. (she was a wolf mix who overheated in the house in the winter.. so she lived in the garage during that time.. but she'd come in the house until it was time to go to sleep)
So, not only does a pit NEED the interaction with people it also needs warmth... I know if I saw a puppy out in the cold all the time I'd call the cops.. or the SPCA.. so, If I were you, I'd do alot more research.. the fines for animal cruelty are pretty high.. and if the dog dies, you will be lucky to get off without doing jail time..

That depends on how long of a stay you're intending. If you plan on leaving the dog outside always, I hate to say it but I would start looking for a good indoor home for the puppy. Its never good to just leave dogs in the backyard where they dont receive consistant attention, especially a pit bull puppy. Being chained in the backyard for their life is what breeds agression, no matter how nice you are to the dog. Dogs love people, and because of that need to be around them consistently. If you weren't ready to make the preparations necessary to allow a dog into the warmth of your home in the Michigan winters, you shouldn't have gotten a dog.

will the dog be outside most of the time or only to use the bathroom?
OK seems how you didn't answer, i would say it is never a good idea to keep an American pit bull terrier outside. only take it out when someone is there to watch it. people will steal your dog and train it to be a fighter. which i hope is not what you are going for. leaving a dog (any dog) outside tied up to a dog house is asking to have a mean dog. this will build up your dogs frustration levels and make it aggressive towards you and other people and animals. please don't let your dog become a statistic. seems how you got this puppy before you should have (7 weeks is too young to be away from its mother) it has me nervous as to what your intentions are with this beautiful breed of dog. it gets too cold in MI for a dog to be outside for any length of time!!!

"Dogs are pack animals. In the wild, canines live, eat, and sleep with their family. In the absence of dogs, humans become their "pack." A chained dog feels rejected and doesn't understand why.
Imagine being chained to a tree year after year. You watch the door hoping someone will come play. No one ever does. You long to run, but you can only pace. You shiver in winter and pant in summer. Eventually, you stop barking. You have given up hope.
We have many forms of entertainment: movies, music, friends. Your dog only has YOU. If you can't give a dog a good life, should you have one?"
I urge you to view the website below before leaving your dog outside...
Also, WHY do you have a SEVEN week old pup?? It is detrimental to the dog's HEALTH and psychological development to be removed from their mothers that young.
This is just sad.

Age is only one factor. Pit Bull breeds are short coated and would require a very well insulated dog house if you were planning to leave her out there for extended periods. Also, tethering a dog for extended periods can cause psychological damage. I suggest you let the dog spend her time indoors during extremely hot or cold weather. To leave a dog outside in such temperatures is cruel and damaging.

pit bulls have very short hair, so it's like you going out in the middle of winter with a light jacket on and having to stay outside in a dog house. please give this dog alot of blankets and insulate the doghouse well. Make sure there is a blanket to cover the doorway. I think you should keep the puppy in until its at least 18 months old.

what??!!! are you kidding me? you are going to keep the dog in a dog house? what are you totally ignorant on the needs of dogs why did you get a dog if you are just going to let it rot in a dog house? please you make me ill!!! that poor dog i dont understand people like you.
to answer your question
they are never old enough to be left alone to rot ...will you keep them chained too? maybe they can wear the grass away in the whole five feet chain you will be giving them how nice or maybe a big cage? even better they can spend their life walking on concrete staring at the backdoor hoping some one will remember to feed and water them some time soon.did you get a pit bull so you can say "hey i have a pit bull look out the window you can see it ..see it right there shaking in its pitiful doghouse..oh see how it wags its tail when it sees me " pitiful!!!!! selfish

I'm sorry I would never leave my dog outside to live, the reason I got my pit is because I love him and I would never think to leave my kids out side all day long so I wouldn't do it to my dogs. having a dog means you take on the responsibility of raising the dog not leaving it out side. I'm sorry to sound mean but that to me it sounds neglect full, not that you are, but a dog requires allot of attention not just left outside all day with no companionship. teach the dog to be an indoor dog with warmth and a loving bed, trust me you will love cuddling with your dog and watching it grow.

90% of dog owners have their dogs live inside with them.
The other 10% just don't get it and shouldn't be owning dogs.
Are you seriously discussing leaving any dog (let alone a PUPPY) outside during the winter in MICHIGAN? You are negligent and shouldn't be allowed to have ANY dog, let alone a pitbull (why is it that inexperienced and ignorant dog owners always go for pitbulls?).
