I know you Libs don't believe this war is worht fight for. Read the question again carefully. I am asking what would it take? Suicide bombers in the mall? Car bombs in the tunnels to NYC? Dirty bombs in Baltimore or Atlanta? WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU FIGHT?

I'm am truly sorry to burst anybody's bubble, but John Kennedy was not a Liberal.

Currently the ratio of Conservative to Liberal in the militaty is about 80-20. Many on this site spew nothing but hate and comdenation for the services. This question is for them. They stand in line for every government handout, enjoy a level of free speech unheard of, yet spit on those who protect them. What would get them to defend their nation with their lives?

Eisenhower and John Kennedy were war heroes. We haven't had a war hero since... At this point in my life, I'd hazard a guess that we haven't had a good military leader running for office candidate since. I've still obeyed their orders

Kerry was, in my opinion, a turncoat. You don't have to like my opinion. But I'll defend it based on my military experience... not hearsay, or propaganda, of published service records. I have no idea what I'd call the President, or Vice President. If I were sill military, I'd call them "Sir." But I'm not. So, I'd call them "Mr. President," and "Mr. Vice President." And my opinion of the current administration is reflected in my vote... not here,

If you're waiting for a "good" war, it isn't going to happen. There will always be something some people don't like about it.

If you're going to wait for a "popular" war, that isn't going to happen either. People cry, "I'll fight if we're attacked." Well, people, we are under attack. We're under attack on several fronts. We;re being invaded by illegal aliens who want nothing but to milk our economy dry. We;re being invaded by foreign investors, who want nothing but to control our economy... perhaps to drive us into bankruptcy. We've dropped our guard against ignorance and fear, so we are ripe for terrorism which preys on those weaknesses. We are complacent, so any enemy might already be here. We cannot accept the responsibility for our own actions... or lack of action, so we expect somebody else to protect us.

Many of us seem to think the world is a large planet. They seem to think it still takes a year or more to travel around it. Some seem to believe that there is a way to get everybody... or at least a majority of the world to like us.

I had a very wise Chief Petty Officer once tell me on one of my Pentagon tours, that the only way this country would ever act like a country is if it were attacked. Well, we're under attack, and most of us seen not to know it, or they simply refuse to admit it.

Is it a liberal v. conservative thing? Nope, Both are too busy bashing the other. Both are too busy trying to bloat the government. Both are too busy vying for power. Both are too busy keeping their cushy jobs where they can live off the fat of their corruption. They are too busy ducking the blame for failure and taking the credit for success. They're too busy to worry about the country... or its people.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. There is no fence upon which to sit any more. If you're not actively fighting terrorism, then, sorry to say, you're tacitly supporting it... perhaps actively supporting it.

Posters have asked each other why they're not in the service. So, to edify those, I'm not in the service. But probably before most of the posters were born, I was serving one of three tours in Vietnam. I'd retired after 25 years probably before some of you could read or write. And, when OIF began I did offer my services... again.

The branding people as cowards or killers because they disagree with your opinion is really childish and getting tiring. Yes speaking to both sides here Liberal and Conservative. The facts are that in twenty years in the Marines and knowing and serving with numerous other personnel in the other military services that most of the military are more conservative then not but it also true that many are "liberals" who love and serve this country. I knew some who voted for Jimmy Carter, others voted for Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Kerry; no I didn't but some though probably not anywhere close to a majority did. I am not Liberal; I am very Conservative on national defense but ,more "live and let live" outside of that-this is probably the most common politics in the military. So what it takes to have a liberal to put on a uniform and serve the country is the same thing that it takes for a conservative-A love of the country, the Constitution and a willingness to put the greater good sometimes above your personal beliefs and always above your personal safety. I will agree that John F. Kennedy was a "liberal" in non-military matters but will the liberals agree that he was a conservative in foreign affairs and national defense; he had what I believe is the typical politics of the military though a little more liberal on the other then national defense area.
Adding this-Serving in the military when you agree with what is going on is not patriotism-it is self serving; putting the common good and country above your personal beliefs at times was one of the things, not "when I beieve in it I will serve."

I'm pretty much a card carrying liberal, outside of my beliefs on gun control and a couple other things, and I had no problem joining the military... I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Some of us liberals take the "Ours is not to question why.." to heart, while others choose to pretend it never existed.

The average serviceman is like the average civilian when it comes to politics - he or she doesn't belong to either of the big two parties. They vote for whichever candidate they like the most come election time.

Besides, your question is rather pointless. By dictionary definition, both the Republican and the Democratic parties are "liberal", and the Republican party isn't as "conservative" as people think.

As someone who introduces himself as a retired Marine officer, you ought to know better than this. Don't dupe yourself into thinking the average servicemen is a clean-cut, Republican-voting, All-American patriot who enlisted to fight the good fight.

Same as it takes a conservative.

Kennedy was a decorated veteran. So was Johnson. And come to think of it, John Kerry is, too - yet the big dumb ape who swings around the White House light fixtures managed to escape and evade service.

Odd...and I always thought Dumbya was a conservative. Same with Cheney. But when it came to putting on a uniform, they kind of hid beneath a rock.

You are some kind of stupid. The war on Iraq has never had anything to do with the war on terror. It is a shame we invaded Iraq and left the victims of 9/11 forsaken.

Seems to me all this fighting for freedom is losing us freedoms.

I am a liberal and I will be joining the USAF in just under 3 months. Does that count? You can't say that liberals do not join the military, because it's not true.

A reason? Possibly defense? Possibly humanity issues that are proven?

Then again, my dad and older brother are extreme liberals and in the Army right now. Can you say that?

It's funny how many people say this, yet don't enlist themselves.
