He cuddles up to me, and finds a place to tuck his head in and falls asleep. He also follows me, and when we walk he stares at me the whole time. Also I have a problem with him.You see we have 2 puppies, a husky/sheppard mix, who is 6 months old, and a small what I think may be a pit bull terrier, who is only 6 weeks old. He is the one who cuddles up to me. Well the pit bull, Munchkin, seems to only respond to our other dogs name, Whitey. How can I make him come to his own name?

absoultely, you are his comfort zone, as a child taken from his mom, someone else comes in to fill that place, they look to that person as their mom or dad. Our dog follows me everywhere, yet my daughter or husband can leave the room, if I stay put, he will stay put, but the minute I go out back or in another room, he gets up and follows me. If I leave to go to the store and leave my husband and daughter here to watch over him, he will be fine for a bit but then cry and sit at the fence or back door waiting for me to come back.
Unconditional love-

Great topic!
Your dog, See's you as the ALPHA LEADER...
I have added a great web site for you to read...Its very good...
and I wish you the best happiness and love with your Dog...good luck!
It seems though you have already established the Alpha leadership here as a natural,...some people have it...and some don't. Obviously you do without even realizing it.
Alpha Leadership
This type of Leadership can confirm humans as the heads of the family pack. Once you establish this relationship, your dog will seek you out. He will want to be with you and will treat you with respect and affection. After he learns to submit to handling, all other tasks such as grooming, nail clipping, cleaning ears, and medicating will be easier to accomplish. But first he must learn that you have the power to handle him, and that handling will not lead to any harm. He must come to trust you entirely.....This is how your Dog sees you in his world.

Dogs dont view maternal relationships te same way we do.
As people we tend to give things human triats that really dont have them.
He sees you as pack leader. He nuzzles to you because dogs do this to stay warm and not be lonely because they are social.
He is not doing it because he thinks he is your child. That's silly because they do not think like people.
To train your dog, call both of them and only allow the Munchkin to come all the way to you when you say his name. If he tries to asnwer to whitey, say no, stop him. When he does the right thing, give him a treat and praise.

Pat dogs classify the owner"s family in three grades i.e.parents, equals and those inferior to it and treat them accordingly. The dog may select even a child as its parent. When Munchkin is close to you,if you repeat its name while patting its head, he will come realize his name His responding to the name of Whitey ,is possibly an effort to compete with Whitney to please you.

I think animals, some of them anyway, do see "humans" as their mothers. I had this same experience with a friend's dog. He followed me home after I left their house and fortunately I heard his bell collar around his neck dingling to turn around and notice him at all. He looks up at me as though he is waiting for instructions or demands. He cuddles up to me, he always wants to play with me...even other people's babies do this to me....I must be motherly or something. Why he doesn't respond to his name? Wow I wish I knew dog psychology. He doesn't like the name simply put or somehow, through your unintentional actions, he has got it in his head that his name is Whitey...I would love to help with this...this is indeed strange.

First off, the dog doesn't think of you as 'Mom'....he thinks of you as his leader and a source of love and affection.
To get the pup to respond to his name, make sure you use it often. When stroking and cuddling the puppy, repeat his name softly. Also, try individual sessions of play and training. Bring the pup outside and call his name enthusiastically. It helps to clap your hands softly too. He will learn his name eventually....
He is a bit too young though..6 weeks is too young to be adopted out.

You’re the pack leader. You will need to spend time alone with doing something fun and call him by his name. Like when you praise him say "Good Bucky!!" eg. And use positive reinforcement, works best with animals.

He simply wants you to bond with him moreãHe faces aãlittle challenge in competing with your other puppies. He wants to probably have the edge. Train him alone when the other puppies aren't around. That way, he'll get used to his own name when you call him. Good luck!!!
