As Ray said, there are indeed gnostic quotes about Jesus; but it's false to say that it's just another Gnostic Religion.
During Mohammad's day, there were Christians, Pagans and Jews all over the Mid East; it seems that the early Muslims and Christians got along fine. Christians have been known to rescue the followers of Mohammad who were persecuted by the Pagans of Mecca.
However, the fundamentals of Islam as a religion is definitely new; although we accept the prophets of the Bible, the Arabic base cannot be denied. It's a wonderful faith...only if fanatics and political pundits would allow Muslims to pracrice true Islam.

I can fully understand why you would think that and I would agree that on the face of it could look like that.
But further examination of the Quran (the only miracle that Muhammad [pbuh] claimed).
Things such as the Big Bang, which was developed only in the 1960's thanks to the works of Hubble, no illeterate man in the 600's could have thought of such a thing:
Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (Quran 21:30)
Or even fingerprinting, in 1880, fingerprinting became the scientific method of identification, after research done by Sir Francis Golt. No two persons in the world can ever have exactly the same fingerprint pattern. That is the reason why police forces worldwide use fingerprints to identify the criminal. 1400 years ago who could have known the uniqueness of each human's fingerprint?
Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones? Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers. (Quran 75: 3- 4)
As one of the answerers points out above that the Gospel of Thomas also has some of the same narrations attributed to Jesus (pbuh) however who is to say which is correct and which is not.
Had the Bible's cannonised Gospels been alike in their accounts within Jesus' life then they would carry more weight, for example:
How did Simon Peter find out that Jesus was the Christ?
(a) By a revelation from heaven (Matthew16:17).
(b) His brother Andrew told him (John 1:41).
or
Did Jesus bear his own cross?
(a) Yes (John 19:17).
(b) No (Matthew 27:31-32).
However since this is not the case, each and every Gospel has the right to claim at least to be examined as the legitimate account of Jesus' life.

lots of the Gnostic texts would be seen as being from a sect of Christianity. lots of the texts have little or no longer something to do with Christ, so as that they are actually not Christian. The "scriptures" are available in categories - form of like the recent testomony. the place the recent testomony has Gospels, Acts, Epistles and Revelations, the Gnostic texts have Gospels, Tractates and something like Epistles. The Gospels are comparable to those interior the NT, however the Tractates are something altogether distinctive. They study extra like a distinctive version of the advent of each and every thing. They point out a "Father" of countless power, yet in addition incorporate a "mom" of types (that's pronounced as "information" or "Sophia"), a "Son" (no longer continuously pronounced as Christ), Archons and Aeons and distinctive levels of Heaven. some even point out prophets and gods of different faiths (Zoroaster and Seth). those additions have been seen as polytheistic, and subsequently condemned as heresy by the "Catholic" Church. i'm at the instant interpreting those texts myself. you will come across all of them translated into English in a e book pronounced as the Nag Hammadi Library (James M. Robinson). once you are going to seek the internet, i'd propose you seek for "Nag Hammadi". Take a while interpreting those texts, because of the fact they may well be very perplexing and convoluted.

The first to help Islamic people was the Christians. Every single dollar from Islam should go back to Ethiopia in goodness but instead they make great buildings and fill their pockets to the brim. We are greatly saddened by this ignorance from the East. Notice the West is the greatest help always to all people in the world, faith or not they always help and give generously.

I agree with you! I am so happy to find someone else on this site who recognizes that the stories in the Qu'ran are the same as many in the Gnostic bible. Thank you for bringing this to the forefront. I am so tired of all the thumbs down I get when I point this out to people.

Is christianity a jewish sect called essens or zelots? is judaism stolen from the old pagan religions of iraq, syria, and egypt? you may find a lot of information to support these theories, from the dead sea scrolls to the old writings of pagan religion. but if you believe in the existence of god, you may stop accusing Moses, jesus, muhammed of stealing and lying, which is a shame, and accept the more simple and logical theory, that the source is one god.
gnostics are so much different from islam they are very spiritual, matter haters, while islam is realistic and down to earth. so your claims don't make sense. remember that christians like john of demascus lived in the muslim society and spread lies in form of hadith and historical records that where written very late after the events were gone. same thing they did when they changed the torah and bible and put their non sense in them.

The book of Quran could never be found by someone. When looking at Quran, it contains of prophecies, scientific evidence, and no contradictions.
The similarities between Islam and Judaism/Christianity is because they all revealed by one God.
People say that his wife was Christian, thats wrong. His wife had a Christian cousin, thats it.
People of Quraish were mostly pagans, not Christians.

There is indeed some gnosis in the Qur'an. Talking about Certain "principles", or forces at work in Creation. Just as Genesis 1 calls these forces "waters". And Galatians 4 talks about how we are in bondage to the elements of this world.
Or our soul is influenced by baser aspects of spiritual things like magnetism, and the telepathic and empathic influences of others.
