my cats are indoor cats we live on the third floor of an apartment...you know i know about dominance..i read somewhere to put tuna on your cats and put them somewhere in a small cage where they can duke it out and adventually be friends...well that didnt work... im more afraid my older cat will kill my younger cat who is much bigger but he doesnt fight back..so i dont understand why he has to still kick the **** out him when he comes in the room...joe joe..my oldest is obviously the dominate one..but he doesnt seem to stop fighting the other..

simple: a spray bottle filled with water.
Sounds harsh I know but don't worry. A spray at the cats behind who started the fight will work. It is not harmful, does not hurt them and they hate it. It works and they will learn eventually.
Are your males neutered? Neutering a cat will calm down hyper active cats or it could be a struggle for dominance.
If it is a dominance issue then remember to always pet and feed the oldest one first..even pet them with seperate hands helps. Is their waste on top of a litter tray rather then buried in it?
If it is, a cat shows their fight for status by leaving as much scent around the house as possible.

A couple of ideas for you. First, are both cats neutered? If not make an appointment to discuss neutering with your vet. Two male cats living in the same house need to be neutered or else the fighting will most likely never stop.
Also, which cat did you get first? Whichever it is, you need to establish that you are dominant, followed by the older cat. The cat you have had longer eats first, gets attention first, and gets treats first. This will establish a sort of in-house heirarchy.
Loud noises and/or squirt guns also do the trick. Don't go out and buy a high powered supersoaker, but a generic pump bottle of water usually helps. Or just make loud noises, i.e. a loud clap, shout, or whistle. This should help distract them from eachother.
Hopefully at least one of these will help!

First off are the neutered?? The two year old has now come to full maturity and may be fighting for dominance. If they are not fixed expect them to start spraying about now if they haven't before. If they are fixed, (may work too if they are not, but use a watergun! Making a startling noise or slapping a newspaper on something can help, but I have 30 and back when I only had 8 (mine, roommate and then slowly people kept dumping and blah blah blah) we found a watergun to be EXTEMELY effective! I have a small pump gun, it shoots clear acros the room and they aren't sure where it comes from sometimes! But if you establish dominance over the two of them then you are top cat!

Try hissing at them. My cat was jumping and biting at my husbands legs as he'd walk down the hall (I thought it was funny) but it was getting out of control. Someone on yahoo suggested hissing at him. So my husband started doing it and he stopped. Now... he's biting me... So i'm starting the hissing thing.. we'll see if it works with me.. Good luck.. I'm a new cat owner so I'm not sure if this will work but I thought I'd respond to you....

the only time my cats fight ( who both stay indoors ) are when they see a stray cat that comes right up to the screen door and just looks in at them...makes both of my cats mad ( the altered female mostly) and they just attack each other...maybe your cats are seeing other cats outside through the window

this is normal behaviour cat like other mammals fight for dominance ,short of getting rid of one cat ,there is nothing except letting them work out there status in the heirachy

are they neutered? that could be a big reason they are doing this. there could be a female in heat outside they want to get to . have them both "fixed" if they arent already

i guess you'll either have to separate them unless you can watch them, or let them work it out on their own.
i had a female cat who hated all other cats -- she kept her distance from my two other cats. if they came too close she hissed and hit them with her paw.... it was just her personality!
