Hopefully, all you have done is overstretched a muscle near your vein or maybe have a very mild bruise. If the vein itself is actually hurting, this could be a very serious serious condition caused by a blood clot or by an infection of the vein. Sometimes throat infections can cause inflammation of veins - but its not a common occurrence. Clots in the jugular vein could also cause pain, but they are very rare in the absence of some sort of accident that might have injured the vein. People can sometimes cause clots by improper massage techniques - putting a lot of pressure on a vein. If you have just got over an infection or think this could be a clot or you might have injured your vein, it would be a good idea to take an aspirin (reduces clotting) and call your doctor's office.
