And he doesn't eat bacon sandwiches because he's watching his weight...what else can I offer him? I feel it's important to offer something, just to show him that we feel he's doing a fab job!

OK, apologies if this has seemed like a stupid question...I actually thought it was legitimate, but apparently I'm immature and ridiculous for asking it. But, I just wanted other people's opinions - I couldn't work it out, and I've been brought up to 'reward' good work - I used bacon butties as an example, I know I could offer him something else, but I wasn't sure what. I just wondered what other people would think - I'd hate for him to think that I was just ignoring his good work.

Since this is an etiquette forum, I will say that the situation calls for you not serving refreshments or offering refreshments.
Your plumber is a professional who is providing a service and does not expect to be either tipped of given refreshments. They have a certain amount of time allotted to do their job for you, and they want to get things done in that time so that they can continue on to their next responsibility. Most charge by the hour so please keep that in mind when you are offering them refreshments.
It is not important to offer them something to show that they are doing a good job, you are paying them to do it, already. Instead, do the proper thing and send them an excellent letter of reference--that means more than a tip in the long run.

In the wild, plumbers usually forage for nuts and berries and drink natural spring water. Ones in captivity, tend to have gotten used to Bacon Butties and Tea.
Looks like you've got a wild one there...
Watch out, they bite.

Do you fancy him?
If so, offer to buy him a drink at your local after work - and see how it goes.
If not, compliment him on his workmanship and, when the job is done, add a reasonable gratuity to his bill - which he would probably prefer in cash.
(I like tinned whole tomatoes on my bacon butties!)
Good luck!

What about Mattessons Turkey Bacon it's about quarter the calories of bacon, use nimble or weightwatchers bread with Flora diet spread. For a drink give him sugar free squash. But ask him if he likes them first

Wish i had more customers like you! Ice cold water always goes down well with me. He may have issues though about drinking and eating in other peoples houses.
A painter that helps my from time to time wont except anything from customers. He has that thing where he has to wash his hands repeatably as well.Could be something to do with that.

Like tea and coffee are the only liquids that one can drink on earth.....
I do think it's a silly question. Or maybe the plumber is soooooooo damn hot that it makes you sooo damned worried to offer him something and look nice to him.....???

Provide a cooler with some bottled water and a small bowl of fruit. He has most likely brought his own beverages and snacks but it is a nice gesture to have something for folks doing work for us

Offer him some cold water, and maybe set out vegetables and dip for a snack. You could also make healthy sandwiches that don't include bacon!
