I make fun of the people that say things about how we came from monkeys, and ask why monkeys still exist if such things took place.
I don't understand why anyone would say such things.

Not all atheists are evil, selfish, decadent heathens. I'll bet you didn't you know that, did you? I belong to a Yahoo! group for "spiritual atheists." Many hold deep convictions and are basically spiritually inclined, care about people and their happiness, but simply do not happen to believe in God. All of the same mysteries of life matter to them too, they simply don't beileve in the God part of it.
Added comment:
Speaking of making fun of what one does not understand, whether it's in Religion & Spirituality or elsewhere, there are a lot of criticisms of scientific theories that Christians very obviously do not understand in the least. If it contradicts what the Bible says, it must be wrong. That apparently entitles the believer to open his mouth and speak like a fool.
I know that you could not care less what I say or anyone who disagrees might say because your mind is very obviously made up on all of this. The mood of your "question" is one of "knowing the answer", not one of asking or learning or listening. You'll pick a Best Answer that best agrees exactly with what you already beieve and you'll get your little pat on the back. I've seen it a million times.

I find your questions quite interesting: I am not an atheist .. Frankly I dont have the faith ... But I do find that most atheist's have study religion .. and a veritiy of religions and see in those the obvious simularties. The Glaring misstruth. And I suspect they have studied the world history .. that shaped those miss truths.. why men changed doctrine to suit the politics of the time.. etc
they also see the wolves in sheeps clothing which is the declaried "christian". Those who are most un-christian.. those who judge others, who promote fear and hate ..
and lastly the sadly ignorate .. who ask questions like this

Using your logic, is the reason why christians visit the gay and lesbian section because they are insecure about their sexuality?
You asked....My message to share is simple. I think live and let live will only work if your way does not impede on my way. I don't mind your believing and practicing your religion in whatever way suits you best. However, when your religion impacts my way of life, that's where it crosses the line. You claim that christians "witness" to gays and lesbians. I beg to argue.
What you call "witness", I call "insult", "degrade", "belittle". If you really want to represent your faith, rise above and set an example of how YOU would like to be treated. I see a whole lot of christians citing the golden rule. If only they would live by the words they spout, the world would be a whole lot better.

Q: Isn't it funny how atheist come in spirituality and make fun of what they don't understand?
A: They understand. They just don't believe and they feel superior to you because you believe. That helps them feel they're more worthy of facing life, somehow.
Part of the problem is that you don't come across as being someone anyone would believe about anything, and certainly not about something as important as spiritual faith.

Isn't it funny how many people think "Why are atheists here?" is an original question? Actually, it's not funny. Just tiresome.
For the billionth time: I'm here for the reason everybody else, I should hope, is on Yahoo Answers: because I am knowledgeable on the subject of religion, and can answer many different sorts of questions on the subject.

We are clannish people, we humans, and are driven by our neurobiology to operate on the "in-group vs out-group" principle.
We also suspect that deep down, everyone really believes what we believe.
When we are confronted with those who believe something other than that which we believe, we have two possible responses: Either we persuade ourselves that our position is the superior one, of we attack them. Often we engage in a combination of both strategies.

And isn't it equally funny that you put yourself above others for believing in something so strongly and 'knowing' that you are right? No need to be belligerent. This only fuels that fire between the two. This does not plead your case well, try using 'honey' instead of 'vinegar' to attract the flies.
EDIT: Both Jedi and Deke are answering in the right mind set.

What is it that we're not supposed to understand ? Most of us were brought up in Christian homes , and were members of Christian families from birth until we were mature.
We've heard it all . We've done it all . We believe none of it .
I am 100 % sure of myself . We're all part of nature , when we die we will be just as we were before birth . Why is that so hard for you holies to understand ?
Anyone who believes in fairy tales , three-in-one "gods" , angels - ( part bird-part human freaks ) , souls ( whatever that is ) , sure can't be very sure of himself . Superstitious people are never very bright .

The basic reason I come here is that when I go to the Science and Math section, and someone asks a serious science question, there is too often someone who will answer a serious science question with the answer "God did it." "The Earth is only 6000 years old." "God created men" "There is no geological forces, it all happened in the Great Flood" and they offer their proof as "The Bible says it so it must be true."
If you can't deal with skeptics coming here and challenging you point of view, stay out of the science and math section with you silly answers.

But we do understand. That's why we make fun of it.
You just don't see the humor in your superstitious beliefs, because you are too emotionally tied to them.
"Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus." - Thomas Jefferson
Christianity supported racism, intolerance, bigotry, chauvinism, and only changed its tune from time to time because of the often bloody efforts of those trying to establish their rights. Probably the reason why Christian counseling does well in jails is because a disproportionate number of people in jail are Christian. The percentage of atheists in jail is far less than atheists in public. So, while it might be true that Christianity helps them keep from coming back, atheism helps them keep from going in the first place.
Also, you gave statistics for those getting help from Christians versus those not getting any help. You didn't give statistics for those getting help from Christian groups versus those getting help from atheist or Muslim groups or any other group. My bet is that any help, even if it is based on superstitious nonsense, is better than no help.
