It depends on what you were wrong about. Maybe they are angry at that. You don't give an example. Just owning up to being guilty doesn't cancel out all serious wrong doings. Saying SORRY I PULLED OUT ALL THE FLOWERS YOU JUST PLANTED, COS I THOUGHT THEY WERE WEEDS, doesn't appease someone who put in a lot of time planting flowers. Especially if you have never shown any interest in the garden before.
On the other hand, some people are just looking for an excuse to be angry and anything sets them off. If you apologise then it makes them even angrier that it seemed you tried to cut the argument short when they were prepared to argue all night. You might attract people like that and if you do, it may seem to you that things like this happen all the time. All you have to do is hang around with better type people.

It depends on how much you hurt them. But, hey, remember you can always melt down those feelings of theirs :)
1. Smile and ask them in the most friendly tone - "May we go out together for a cup of coffee whenever you may be free? I'd really like to talk to you about something".
When they accept, go out and talk. Be honest, be kind, and be courteous to what they say. Listen to what they say and don't say anything until they've finished. Then, apologize for everything that you might have hurt them and tell them it won't ever happen again (depending on what you did).
Remember - once you ask them out for coffee, or a walk, or somewhere to talk in private - you've done your job, and they'll probably feel their guilt at that moment if they have any :)

Hi....
People are ignorant, that's why!!
Everyone makes mistakes, and owning up to them is very brave and takes a lot of guts....
I think that after we make a mistake, and realize it, apologize for it, that should be a lesson learned... and we have paid the price for it through it all.
the people who are holding this over your head, mustn't have anything better to do with their lives, and have FORGOTTEN they have made 100's of mistakes during their own lives, too.
i hope it works out. take care of you, ok?

because they're too selfish and pigheaded to realize that you already admitted you're wrong. I have that problem too. my fiance does it to me. he'll hold it against me for a little bit. It kinda also goes to their head that you said 'i was wrong' crazy people. don't sweat it
