You should not be anywhere around fecal matter from any animal when pregnant. Get rid of the cat for now....

Like someone else said it is probably that the litterbox isn't clean. I would buy two new litter boxes. One for the main floor and one for the basement. I would make sure I clean the litter at least daily if not twice a day. They say you should have one litter box for each floor per cat so give the one in the basement a try. I hope it works out for you.

you can temporarily put a litter box in the places she is going... along with her normal litter box area.

maybe you could also make a visit to one of the larger pet stores for a cleaning product that might help to get the smell out -- just because we can't smell it, the cat probably can.

they also have cat "NO" sprays, which are supposed to help to keep a cat out of certain areas. i have never tried one but maybe you could give that a whirl?

even if you are pregnant, you can still change the litter.. just use rubber gloves, or disposable laytex.. vets can give tests to see if your cat is carrying toxoplasmosis, which is what you are probably concerned about getting from the cat? If your cat tests negative, there is no reason to worry.

i sure hope it works out

I would suggest trying another brand of Kitty Litter; alot of commercial Kitty Litters add Artifical ingredients such as artifical colors or scents.

Probably the artificial scent is not good.

I would recommend a Kitty Litter called

FELINE PINE Kitty Litter form pine bark.

They have a free rebate offer on feline pine.

make sure the litter box is clean. if you don't like the smell the cat will hate it. but you may want to move the litter box to that spot. why fight the cat. or try the link below.

I know that this may sound harsh but I had to lock my cat into the room where the litter was (the bathroom) and she learned that was where she was to go. Hope you have the heart to do it. :(

It's possible that her litter box is not clean enough, or is difficult for her to get to. It's also possible she is sick, or perhaps has worms or something.
