What is he going to do when the kids have needs? Or when you disturb his peace with your needs? I would run from the bf and be thankful that you found out how nasty he was before you got more deeply involved.

It depends on what caused this seizure. You say she didn't get her 'calm down' medication. What's that about? Was it very hot - if so it could have been heatstroke that did this. First of all GET HER TO YOUR VET. There is no point coming on here looking for answers. Fitting could be down to any number of things, and at her age especially. Yes stress and the vet has to be thought about, but I'd not want to just leave her without finding out what's going on. Secondly, DO NOT SELF-MEDICATE. You could do more harm than good. Again - vet Thirdly - internet research is a big mistake. Even if you find something that resembles what you are seeing with your dog, you could be going up completely the wrong avenue. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing - so true. Please take her to your vet - there must be a neighbour/friend who can help you? And if it's exceptionally hot outside, bring her into the cool.

I agree with most everyone here but, there is a a couple things to consider here.

First of all. Yes get the dog to the vet. there is no putting a dog in another room.

your boyfriend. now here is where I want to analyze this.

Was he in a bad mood before bedtime? Does he care about the dog any other time? does play with your dog? Is he cranky like this when he is woken up all the time.? How is he when your children are near? Once you find out these answers you can determine what you need to do.

if he was just cranky then , before you get rid of him tell him your feelings. If nothing changes. Then yes tell him that your kids and your dog comes first. and that there will be no disrespect for them.

Some people are cranky when woke up but this was an emergency so its not a very good excuse.

Even if he is not attached to the dog itself, he should have a certian amount of compassion for any living creature obviously suffering.

It should have been important to him BECAUSE it is important to you and your children, out of respect and compassion for you/your kids feelings if nothing else.

I knew of someone like this, he eventually shot the family dog because it wouldn't stop barking when he had to work nights and sleep during the day.... dogs bark when outside during the day, it was not excessive. This same person went on after the marriage fell apart to shoot the person his soon to be ex-wife started seeing.

I wont say to judge based on this one incident although personally it waves huge red flags at me, you know the entire situation and what he is like the rest of the time. Do however weigh his true behavior/attitudes not the ones you hope he will develop. You have your children to consider here too and what enviroment you are exposing them to as a whole.

I would hope that you took the dog to a vet as soon as they opened if an emergency vet could not be found? Seizures can be controlled but wont go away on their own.

Best of luck

If you love your dog (and I'm sure you do, as this would not be upsetting you otherwise), you really should re-evaluate your relationship with your boyfriend. Do you see yourself being able to stay with someone who is so anti-pet, when you yourself are a pet lover? I hope the answer is "no" - you'll save yourself a lot of heartache.

My opinion is your BF is just a person, not a dog, and he should find another home to live in, since the dog was there first.

And take your dog to the vet. If he's having seizures frequently, the vet may be able to put him on meds to minimize them.

I have a friend who just doesn't have one iota of interest in animals. He has admitted that he is afraid of dogs and therefore doesn't like them. Not too long ago, after recovering from spine surgery, he was back in his house and he was hobbling around with his cane when he saw something thru his living room window that really infuriated him. Out there, where everyone could see, was a man kicking and hitting his dog. Without a moment's hesitation, he quickly hobbled to his front door, opened it, proceeded to trip over his feet and just managed to catch himself before falling and now thru a haze of pain he continued towards his goal - which was the man who was abusing his dog (a sheperd mix). He blasted that man from here to kingdom come...never realizing the danger that he was in - if not from the man, then the dog. For we all know how dumb dogs can be - they can be beaten within a inch of their lives by their so call superior masters - but they'll still defend them regardless. The point of my story is that here is a human being who despite his negative feelings for dogs, had the Compassion to come to the aid of one.
Where was/is your BF Compassion? If it doesn't exsist for an animal in need - do you really thing it exsists for you and your children?

You can often tell what a man is really like by the way they treat animals. I would take your daughter and run from this man. Obviously if you are asking thsi question you knew the answer though.

What woudl happen if your daughter woke up ill in the night, what woudl his response be? what if said child fell out of bed split her head open needed to get to hospital now....

personaly if this was my bf id be packing his bags for him...

if hhes that disrepectfull about being woken for a scary situation like a dog having a seizure then whats gonna happen if one of the kids wakes him during the night accidentally or for another "ridiculous" reason...

hed be out...

secondly, get the dog to the vets for a work up, any seizure is cause for concern, back to back is vet now worthy.

I think he is a jerk but I also think you need to do something about the dogs health and get her on something to stop the seizures or have her put down. The quality of life for a dog who is having multiple seizures is diminished. Do the right thing and either get the dog help or let her go.

Time for a new boyfriend. What a loser. If he can't understand that the dog is as much family as he is(if not more) then he obviously has no consideration for your feelings and its only going to get worse. Never choose a human over a dog. It shows the character of both.

I'd be a little mad about his attitude! Obviously you care about your dog and after 11 years hes a part of the family. I'd take your dog to the vet asap and tell your boyfriend if hes ever sick in the middle of the night not to BOTHER you!
