I used to have a metal frame futon, and I put in grommets around the edge of the mattress and laced it to the frame. That worked fine!
My frame broke, and I bought a wooden futon frame at a garage sale. I no-sewed a piece of canvas and grommeted it too, then laced that to the mattress and used self adhesive hook and loop tape on the frame and canvas.
Now, it takes two people just to get the mattress off of the frame without peeling the tape off of the canvas. One of these days I'm going to actually sew the hook and loop tape in place.

Futons usually come with small straps to attach them, perhaps you forgot to do this. If your futon doesn't have these, your could make some. Or, for the bed level, you could get some of that under-rug non-slip matting.

Simple really. Go to your nearest futon store and ask them to sell you the anti-slip rubber carpet made for just this purpose. You simply place it under the futon and voila! No more sliding futon... and it only costs about 10$.

The same thing we use under rugs if you have hard wood floors. Go to your local Wall-Mart or Target and they have them there. Check the liners for the kitchen coverts they are rubbery texture tan color. They work grate.
