I discovered clips of my bf with another woman. He says that they were taken many years ago. However, when I checked the metadata of the quicktime clip using exiftool software, it says the date of creation was very recent.

He claims that he had found the clips on his computer, and had transferred it to his Panasonic Lumix camera for safekeeping. He then transferred it back to another computer, and therefore this process has changed the metadata of the clip. Also i noticed that the naming of the quicktime movie clip is very similar to those of pictures that we had recently taken with the camera.

Since I do not have the camera with me, I cannot test out if this is possible. Please can some kind soul try out for me to find out if metadata of a quicktime movie can really be changed this way? Please help me replicate the process, u can download exiftool here (http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/)

Thank you so much in advanced!

Thanks for all your answers. Here is the link again for the exif tool: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

I can't look at the original computer because the computer is in another country.

I know it seems like I don't trust him but the truth is that he is actually a wonderful person and we love each other very much, I don't doubt that for one second. The pictures are of his ex girlfriend and he says he moved them because he didn't want to keep it at home in case someone found them. I'm a little miffed, but if that is the truth I am prepared to let the whole thing go. However the question of the metadata keeps nagging at me and I just need help to settle this question once and for all so I can stop thinking about it. Thanks again guys, pls help me run the experiment if you can, thank you!!

iirc you can't change the information in EXIF information. If you save a copy of the file with an image editing software, for instance, the "date created" information that you usually see in Windows Explorer will change to the last time you save the file, but not in EXIF information.

Well, I'm sorry that I have to say that but I hope I'm wrong.

You don't need to check the cameras in this way. It's an exercise in logic:

Either:
1) the clips are recent and he's cheating on you, so dump his butt.

OR

2) the clips are old, but he's still keeping pictures of another woman and worse, moving them around and keeping them in his camera to look at, which means he thinks about her and not you--and you know for a fact that it's occurred recently.

So, either way, he isn't very faithful, right? No experiement needed at all, just some clear thinking.

BTW, while the file save dates might change, the metadata of the original file wouldn't, unless he edited the metadata. So, I think he's lying to you.

Firstly take the advice if your partner is keeping pictures of another woman for whatever reason they are untrustworthy!

Secondly there is a remote possibility of changing the EXIF tag on a quicktime file if it is in mov format if the file is changed from a windows to a Macintosh format and back again as that CAN reset the date tags due to the different date systems used. the camera uses a FAT windows style format so this can only be true if he saved the originals on a Mac (but also one with a OS of 10.3 or older as this was fixed under os 10.4).

There are two important things here 1. You may visit camera shop and get all the details to be scrutinised explaining a different concept if required to maintain confidentiality. Or you yourself can take an old file which you are sure is old and do the same process of transferring like how it was done earlier and recheck the date is changed etc etc etc. If it has changed then what he is saying is true or else you know what to do......

I am not a technical person so cannot help you much on this matter. However a question comes to my mind that why is he keeping those clips? What does he want ? to blackmail the previous gf or just to cherish her memories? In both the cases his love for you is under doubt.
With sympathy

Just follow him around keeping to the shadows. I'm sure if he loves you so very much he'll understand that you don't trust him any further than you can throw him if he sees you..
Maybe you should have a fling to get back at him, that will keep this wonderful relationship on an even keel.

Saying you're a freak, or freaky, generally has sexual connotations. Basically that you'd be willing to do just about anything. So your bf is asking for a really nasty bedroom romp, more or less.

I don't know anything about the camera stuff, sorry.

But i'd just like to say ; IF he is cheating, and he's stupid enough to take pictures of himself and this other woman, then it sounds like he wants to get found out anyway. As he's not doing a very good job at hiding it!

Hope it all works out for you x

What he's suggesting is possible.
However, you still don't trust him so hire a PI and know for sure.
Wouldn't it be easiest for you to ask him to take you to his computer and show you the original pics with the original created by date on them.
If he says he deleted them, you know you can get them back, right?
