Understand this, Man is not in a neutral condition before the Lord! He is BORN into sin, and DOES NOT deserve Heaven! This was the whole argument against the Catholic Church, we do not attain Heaven through a sufficiently holy life! It is such a big mistake to assume that we can work our way past Jesus, and God just owes us a free ticket to glory.

If you can realize this, then it should fall into place. God knows because he chooses, out of all sinful people, who he will have a relationship with.

In theological parlance it is said "foreknowledge is not forecontrol". In other words, God knows who is going to be saved and who is not but He refrains from controlling it. The reason why He allows someone to be tested is because the testing is not for God but for other intelligent creatures like angels (there may be other intelligent beings that we do know about). They are watching as to how God deals with the sin problem. I believe the whole sin problem arose as a result of someone accusing God of being unjust, a serious accusation as far as God is concerned. At the end it will be seen that God is indeed just.

"He that ruleth in the heavens is the one who sees the end from the beginning--the one before whom the mysteries of the past and the future are alike outspread, and who, beyond the woe and darkness and ruin that sin has wrought, beholds the accomplishment of His own purposes of love and blessing. Though "clouds and darkness are round about Him: righteousness and judgment are the foundation of His throne." Psalm 97:2, R.V. And this the inhabitants of the universe, both loyal and disloyal, will one day understand. "His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He." Deuteronomy 32:4."

God, though having the power to know in advance, does not always use it. He is selective in the exercise of this ability. Thus, he did not know Adam and Eve would disobey. Neither was it necessary for Him to know inasmuch as nobody can thwart his will.

He did not know if Abraham would obey to the point of withholding nothing. Thus, we read at Genesis 22:12: "NOW I do know . . ." God's prior estimation of his faith was vindicated.

People do not go to hell for not believing in God. Hell is nothing more than the abode of the dead. And death is the absence of life. God punishes people for the refusal to repent from disobedience. The punishment for this refusal is everlasting non-existence. Not torment, not anguish, not agony. Non-existence.

why god would want to test me if he knew the answer

So that on the day of judgment He will be found to be righteous. The Bible teaches two concepts that are not contradictory. On the one hand it teaches that God is sovereign and all knowing and that He has to enable people to repent and believe.

On the other hand it teaches that the gospel call is for "whosoever will believe" and that mankind has a responsibility to answer the call of Christ to this fallen world, to repent of their sins and to believe on the Son of God for their salvation.

On the day of judgment, those who failed to heed the call and believe on Jesus will be without excuse. Click on the Get Saved button @ http://www.angelfire.com/rock3/cornerstone0/ for more information and may God give you the gift of faith, in Jesus' name, amen!

Lynda is the perfect example of why people despise the christian faith. You hate god's creation. You think this short time we get to live here is only temporary so you spend your life waiting for it to end, doing nothing to improve your lot, or the lot of those around you.

People wind up in hell for rejecting Him. I don't understand how free will interacts with the omniscience of God but I think it is not necessary that I understand it.

To believe is to "hold as true". If you want to seek your Creator, you have to "hold as true" that He exists. We don't seek things or people who we don't first hold as existing.

The simple question is do you want God? We are attracted to God's love for us and we are repelled by God's authority over us. We choose our path and then we build our web of evidence around our choice.

I could be wrong, but I don't think a person goes to hell merely for not believing in God.

If this person lives well, treats others with respect, helps others in need, does not hurt people, then I believe it doesn't matter if he believes or not.

I believed and married hell on earth. You think you know so much but you don't know her. She'll chase satan out of hell! I'd convert just on the off chance I might meet her in hell again!

There are some Chrisitans who believe in the theory of "pre-destination." That is, God has known from the beginning who is saved and who is lost, who is going to hell and who is going to heaven.

But I still believe in our free will, freedom of choice - you for example, may be pre-destined for hell.

But you have the power to change your own destiny.

Awesome, ain't it?!?

I believe that hell is living here on this earth. Here is where we feel pain and suffering. When we die there will be no more, and that will be heaven.
