I am going to be in Vermont for about a week in late December, I would like to go sking/snowboarding at least one day (never been skiing, only snowboarding) The last time I was there I had to rent equipment from the Ski Shop at Killington itself. I was curious if there is another place that has a wider variety (Aspen East Maybe??) avaiable for rent. Buying is not really an option because I live in Florida and rarely ever go near snow.

Any suggestioons?

The Shops at the Shack (right at the access to the entrance road) has a good selection of rentals and demos. Ask for Martin, he's the manager and a friend of mine. Aspen East is good too. Two places you might not want to go are Mountain Travellers and Base Camp Outfitters as they only rent Telemark and XC skis. (Great places both, but I don't think that's what you want.)

If you want to stick with the base areas, they do have demo stuff. Always better stuff than the run of the mill rental junk. You can also buy a rental upgrade. It's not as good as the demo stuff, but it's a lot better than the regular skis. I was forced to rent one day and used the upgraded gear..it wasn't bad, but I was using my own boots as well.

Just about every ski shop on the access road has demo equipment as well. As does Joe Jones/The Great Outdoors in Rutland.
