Not in Australia. You never tip taxi drivers and only in restaurants if you get very good service. You don't tip people for doing the job they are paid to do. In some countries, employers do not pay fair wages to their staff so there seems to be a need for the customers to make up the difference. This should never be the case, people should be paid a fair wage. It is not up to the customers to pay extra, the charges in the restaurant should cover a fair wage as well as profits for the owner.

In the US, yes. Taxi drivers and restaurant wait staff get paid very little outside of tips so they really depend them for their income. The bare minimum is 10% but 15-20% is more respectable...especially if you received good service.

Tips are given in appreciation for good service. If you get lousy service at a restaurant you shouldn't tip and you should complain. The same with a taxi.

Actually, a lot of jobs at restaurants or bars aren't paid that good. Especially in the U.S. The employees depend on the tip. And if the service was really good, why not tip them?
You also like it, when your boss gives you an extra money for your good work, right?

No, although it is expected. A tip should only be given if you feel that the waiter or taxi driver has been outstanding in some area.
There is no set amount, just as much as you feel the extra service has been worth.

YES ALWAYS YES
Restaurants -
20% if they were satisfactory - 25 - 30% if they were great. Remember that these mostly kids make a little over 2 bucks an hour and your tip pays their bills and pays for their college tuition. Be a decent human being no matter if she brought you extra bread or not.

easily maximum of our guidebooks do state that gratuity is roofed in service with a minimum of the eating places. We have been at the instant in France and the cab driving force grow to be continuously attempting to offer us substitute back on a similar time as quickly as we needless to say gave him an added euro or 2 and it grow to be needless to say a tip. i think of human beings might grow to be at a loss for words whilst hopping from u . s . a . to u . s . a ., however the guidebooks needless to say do no longer help your industry in any respect. My husband and that i nonetheless bypass away some euro or in spite of the denomination at eating places even whilst gratuity is roofed whilst the service is stable. i've got self assurance like that is nicely worth it extraordinarily whilst there's a language barrier. they may well be your maximum suitable chum throughout your meal. i do no longer desire to land up eating roasted bull's balls or something. Small cities don't be conscious. They in no way communicate english. merely get out your dictionary and tip on service. do no longer p.c.. up individuals in t-shirts. seem for the employer men or the nicely dressed men with superb better halves. you're probably identifying on up those those that get 5 day kit deals and take busses everywhere.

I do when abroad, not at home in the UK though, as things tend to be more expensive in the UK, and if I tipped everyone, I'd have no money left. I figure the 'tip' is already included in the price anyway.

Nope, not always. But if you are really impressed with the service, food you can consider giving, depending on how much you can afford. Maybe a few bucks or sth, and if really impressed a few tens of bucks? Up to you.
