this is a complete guess, but maybe it will somwhat make sence.
Living water.
Maybe Jesus was comparing himself to living water.
We need water to survive.
We can't hurt water, but we can pollut it.
Not sure lol.

Jesus did give his blood to save the world for sin. The Living Water is the water of Life, which is Christ.

Jesus spake in parables concerning "living water" in John
7:37-39. He spoke in parables so only those with the
"living water" could understand what He meant. If the word
was for everyone, why did he hid it from so many by speaking
in parables? Jesus's words do not tell us what the living
water is, but in the 39th verse, the writer tells us what our
Lord meant.
John 7:37-38, Jesus says, "If any man thirst, let him come
unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture
hath said, OUT OF HIS BELLY SHALL FLOW RIVERS OF
LIVING WATER".
(39) The writer, John, "(But this spake he of the SPIRIT,
which they that believe on Him should receive: for the
Holy Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not
yet glorified."
This is the Spirit upon which Christ has built His church;
the Spirit of Revelation. And the gates of hell SHALL NOT
prevail against it!!
John 14:26, Jesus says, "But the Comforter, which is
the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send IN MY NAME,
HE SHALL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS".
Read about the new covenant in Jeremiah 31:33-34, and
repeated in Hebrews 8:10-11, "I will put my law in their
inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and WILL BE
THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
And they SHALL teach no more every man his neighbour,
and every man his brother, SAYING, KNOW THE LORD:::
for they SHALL ALL KNOW ME, from the least of them
unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive
their iniquitiy, and I will remember their sin no more".
The new covenant is, that all His people shall know Him,
because He will reveal Himself to them and be their God
and they SHALL be His people.
Where is the "free will" in this covenant?

I think that the key is in baptism -that baptism should be about the "doing away with" of sins in a previous life and starting a new one in Jesus. Because Jesus died to give us a fresh start and that was the ultimate sacrifice it allows us through baptism to have a fresh start. At a stretch I would suggest that the majority of people that get baptised do it because they have adknowledged that they lived a sinful life before and in light of the ultimate sacrifice this paves the way to a fresh start. I hope that helps

"Living water" is not referring to the Blood of Jesus or atonement. If you look at the Bible, "water" always represents spirit, therefore contextually, "Living water" signifies the indwelling Holy Spirit Who is given to us by rebirth in Jesus. The gift of God is the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:38 which states, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (NIV).

It refers to the Holy Spirit.
John 7:37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'" 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Living water was (and is) required for Jewish purification rites. Jesus was baptised in living water (the Jordan) by John. Living water is symbolic of washing away the impure.
