I have a very peculiar and strange problem with my L reg nissa micra....and this problem surfaces only during winters...in the cold winter mornings the car engine turns but just doesn't fires up...as the day progresses and the temp goes up with sun and all, the engine fires up...also I have observed that the fuel pump switching on sound which comes up when u turn the ignition is missing when I try doing the same in the cold winter mornings....I have been going mad over this issue and have got everything else checked and changed like the...engine oil, spark plugs and even the distributor....still the problem of cold start in the mornings persists...and its just in the winter mornings....in summers there is no problem at all...already have spent more than £200 on the services....plz help...thanks.

You almost hit opon the problem. Fuel delevery the engine control turns on the fuel pump relay by grounding the coil in the relay that switch closes and power runs to the fuel pump. Nissan likes to put the relay in the front kick panels and sometimes under the hood. You can bypass that relay for testing the fuel pump run. BUT most likely the fuel pressure falls and air gets into the fuel line and you just have extended crank time. Fuel pump kits containing new one way valve fixes that problem. Or new fuel pump come with the new valve already installed and you get a new gasoline temp sensor and fuel level sending unit too.

run a jumper to the fuel pump to see if it is an electrical problem (bad connection or relay)
If it is not that or air in the fuel line then maybe see if the choke is coming on correctly when it is cold.
