There were 1,266,264 immigrants who were granted legal residence in 2006.

The top twelve countries sending legal immigrants in 2006:

Mexico (173,753)
People's Republic of China (87,345)
Philippines (74,607)
India (61,369)
Cuba (45,614)
Colombia (43,151)
Dominican Republic (38,069)

Vietnam (30,695)
Jamaica (24,976)
South Korea (24,386)
Guatemala (24,146)
All other countries combined - 606,370

Kinda destroys the idea that Americans are racist about immigrants or that we don't let in Mexicans, doesn't it?

Twice as many legal Mexican immigrants then any other country. Not one European country made the list.

i once read where they are allowing 1 million people a year in. they come on different visas for diff things. some of them let their visa's run out and then they become illegal. i work with a guy from australia, and he said on the test they actually ask if they, immigrants plan on doing harm to the united states. do you know some people actually say yes to that question? we are over populated and it's not getting any better. if only people would learn how to use a birth control method.

Almost 2 million too many. We need to return to 200,000 a year only from other first world countries - like we did when we had the greatest economy ever.

In addition to the 1.2 million immigrants listed by Drixnot, we took about another 500,000 in on work visas and student visas.
