or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

The current value of all goods and services produced in the world is approximately $65.95 trillion US dollars. If we assumed the usual 20-year dividend for acquistions, let's say that the fair market value for the world is about 1.319 quadrillion US dollars.

The value of a soul is a bit harder to determine. In works of fiction, it can go for as little as a rich lifestyle, enjoyed in one's lifetime. Or you can go for broke like Faust and get all the knowledge in the universe, which is incalculable.

But we can look at other measures. Unocal is often mentioned as a company with very poor business practices that hurt many people around the world. Let us assume that the CEO of Unocal has definitely sold his soul, in the common sense of the term (if not actually sold to the devil). Full compensation for Charles R. Williamson, CEO of Unocal, was about $2.5 million dollars in 2005. Let's assume he receives this compensation for every year of his working life (not adjusted for inflation). This makes about 125 million US dollars.

So, the profit of gaining the whole world minus the estimated cost for one soul is:

$1,319,000,000,000,000
- $125,000,000
-----------------------------------------
= $1,318,999,875,000,000

Hope this helps!

you make the assumption that the soul actually exists, unless you mean remaining true to himself. In which case what has a person to lose by gaining the whole world?

It means a man can gain his soul and also if he wants he can loose it. So it is completely under free will. Praise God.that I am saved by HIS grace....Those who read this if any one has no assurity of this wonderful previlage, please kneel and ask God for sending his own son for our eternal life and accept him as his personal saviour. It means that u may think u are happy by doing whatever u want but you may lose your place in heaven. I must say that since I went back to church a few months ago life has sort o exceeded my expecations.

Nothing. Jesus never preached a gospel of prosperity. He also said it is easier for camel to enter the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

His possessions become as dross. They rot and decay and in the end pass to another's hands. His soul is all he can truely posess.
