I give my birds tap water, but now they will be introducing fluoride into our water. >:(

Will it still be safe to give my birds tap water? I have a few dozen birds, and it takes a full bucket a day to water them all. So if I can't do that, it will be annoying.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I don't know much about fluoride.

I would be more worried about giardia in the tap water then the flouride. Even buying bottled spring water for birds has been the center of just being tap water for over a year. You best bet is to buy a filter called "pur" and use that for your birds. It's the only filter that takes organizms out of the water plus giardia. No other filter on the market does this and leaves in the trace elements that birds need to survive.

Good Luck!

Fluoride and chlorine are not good for your bird... or you. I can't believe they are still adding fluoride to drinking water.

It's not a stupid question at all. There has been a lot of debate about fluoride in drinking water.

You can buy filters that fit right on your tap. They claim to remove such things as chlorine and fluoride from your tap water. Maybe check into one?

Not a stupid question at all. However I have 10 birds and I use tap water with all of them. They are all vet checked and all healthy. Perhaps I should spend a little and buy bottled water but I dont. I drink tap, my dogs, horses, snakes, and birds all drink tap. We have fluoride in our water always have had it same with cholorine (which kills deadly bacteria). Get a water report from your local water company most of these elements are "trace" elements and although I'll be honest I dont know if it will hurt a bird mine are all healthy. I also use tap water in all my bird baths that wild birds drink and bathe in

It won't hurt your birds. However, I must admit when they started using Fluoride in our water, I started buying bottled spring water. But my birds drink tap water and it has not hurt them.

You haven't asked a stupid question.

We had a well with naturally occuring high flouride content, and i had three parrots at the time... this was 20 years ago.

currently, my parrots are 30 years old, so i guess the flouride was not harmful... and my kids didn't have cavities either

take care.
