my dad and uncle loved to play with toy guns and swords made of sticks as kids. they are wonderfully rounded people and great parents. My son and his little friends (he is 7) made a catapult, they were playing goodies and baddies. not bothering anyone, just being a bit loud. they were in and out of our garden and also their friends, making war cries and such like. most of the nieghbours were out, saying how nice it is to see the kids playing. but 2 neighbours said they would call the police, and our kids should have asbo's. the kids are polite, respectful and always helping the neighbours, but 1 day they decide to play a game, that kids have played for generations and people react like that. why??
if the kids were running riot and causing probs i could understand, they were just being kids. we were also supervising their play.

I think people are incredibly oversensitive these days, and are too busy sticking their noses into business that they shouldn't be poking around in.
We're living in an age of 'cotton wool' kids, everything must be politically correct, children must be overprotected in the wrong ways, and God forbid that kids run around, get dirty, play rough and just generally be kids.
These days, kids are expected to be hyper sensitive about the smallest things it seems, but these people, like your neighbours, are usually in the minority.
Don't worry, if they say anything again just tell them to go take care of their own business, and I'm sure you'll have more than a few neighbours there to back you up if they do call the police!
Good luck!

Some adults just FREAK OUT at the thought of kids playing any kind of 'war' games. I don't know why. Maybe they think that if you play with toy swords as a 10 year old your more apt to do stab someone as an adult.

My parents never really cared. I had a friend who had toy guns, but we weren't allowed to play cops and robbers with them. Okay, their house, their rules. But as a kid I thought, "What's the point of even having those toys?" And I still feel that way.

that is just ridiculous. i dont think you need to worry, the police certainly wont find anything wrong with your kids playing games like that, especially if they are supervised.
you know that you are a good parent, bringing your children up properly and letting them play these games.
its because children dont play like this that we get all the problems we do with teenagers who are incapable of socialising or being respectful of others.
dont worry, some people just like to try to cause trouble x

dont worry, some people just have no life so to make things mre interesting in their lifes they have to find fault with someone else. I understand what your saying about older generations too. Its a shame, society today is so scary that people have to take something as innocent as childs play and turn it into something bad.
