Most likely within the studies you are taking about tourism they will have World Geography (some colleges and schools do not include the geography class).
Regardless, buy a good world atlas and a world globe (not map, you will have a map in the atlas) as with the globe you will be able to see the real direct and shortest air routes between continents and countries when you draw a line between them.
Go to any bookstore, community college or university and buy
"ICTA's Exploring the World", it focuses on the products of tourism.
The book is designed for use in schools and colleges and as a reference for the travel professional. It reviews geographic fundamentals with emphasis on the resources that counselors use to learn more about the places they sell.
It has maps and it will help you with your chosen career.
Good luck with your chosen profession, it is very fulfilling, and knowing Geography is a must...

Make it a game for yourself.
If you study with friends how do have the same subject you might have a competition.
Name a country, and point it out on the map/globe.
Make a list of the countries or cities you want to learn that day, (put them on cards and shuffle for a random effect,) and read them and point. Extra point for bits of interesting extra information.
Buy a cheap wall map and use if as Dart target, either name a town/country and try to hit it, or throw 'blind' and give info for the place you hit.
This is also more fun if shared with friends.
Make a travel plan and set strange parameter for each leg of the trip, like all towns you 'visit' should be 100 miles (or 100/200 km) apart. (Works well in European countries, or 1000 mile or 1000/2000 km, for world travel.
Or make each leg a $500 plane ticket, or such.
Read up on each town (and its country) and after you have done one 'trip' you can do an other.
You will look a lot on maps so find places that are those distances apart, and you will need to do a lot of research to find towns that are fixed 'price' distances apart.
Go to travel blogs and read random pages.
Look up where the people are, where they do come from and things like that.
That makes the towns/countries come alive.
You will get a better overall knowledge for the world, but it may not be as useful for just getting to know the map.
Get a couple of travel guides from the library or second hand bookshop and read a few pages each day before going to sleep.
But whatever you do, make it fun. Things learned while having fun stay with you much better.

A standard up to date 12 inch diameter globe will give you a good concept of the world, accompany this with a world Atlas book to look at the countries in detail.
